D1: Ashin's Commission (El Jefe judging)

The Stonepike Mountains

Round 11 Complete[sblock=Michael, Hulgyr, Almayce: ]- Michael got on his horsey and listened to hear what he could hear[sblock=Michael: ]- Michael heard bad things happening
[/sblock]- Hulgyr rode off to find his friend[sblock=Hulgyr: ]- Hulgyr found Eternity and Zaeryl (and a soldier)[/sblock][sblock=Michael, Almayce: ]Almayce decided that a quick getaway was important for all, and spurred his mount over to that of Zaeryl's and Ironwolf's. He gathered up the reins for both horses, and intended to lead them with his mount.[/sblock][/sblock][sblock=Ironwolf: ]- Ironwolf would have gone through a soldier's pockets if he had pockets. Instead, he just took his toys away from him.[/sblock][sblock=Zaeryl, Eternity: ]- Eternity and Zaeryl met with their friend, Hulgyr
- Zaeryl kept dragging the sleepy soldier off to bed
- Eternity got off her horsey, but Zaeryl started to walk away again[/sblock]Round 12 - Michael up

Michael 10
Hulgyr 10
Ironwolf 8
Zaeryl 8
Eternity 8
Almayce 1

OoC: Almayce has gathered up the reins to the spare horses, but it would take him some time to distribute them. Does Michael want to spend time helping with that task (he would distribute 1 horse this turn), or does he just want to ride toward Kinthriver at a gallop?

(OOC: Don't use the word "want" for this encounter. NB: I backed through the thread and realized I'd looked at the wrong set of spells for Michael. Michael is much better -- and Michael has *Blam*. He's lacking in *Pzorch* and *Foom*, but *Blam* will do.)

Michael wheels his horse as Almayce fumbles with the reins: the demon-beast snorts as its ears come into line with Michael's backtrail.
And then he pauses.
At the end of things, it is, after all, not right to leave Ironwolf. And Michael has not yet exhausted Sela's blessings.
Though I can see I'm going to before dark.

The horse snorts again as Michael hauls it's head back with the reins, snatches Ironwolf's reins from Almayce's hand, and spurs towards the rest of the party at a less than prudent gallop.

Just don't think about it. The heart knows what the mind does not.

(OOC: Michael is explicitly getting Ironwolf's horse.)

Round 12 - Hulgyr up[sblock=Michael, Almayce: ]With a shout of, "Let me have Ironwolf's horse!", Michael reached over in the saddle and took the reins to Ironwolf's horse from Almayce's hands. As soon as he had them, he rode off into the forest in the direction of all the noise (the sound of hoofbeats, not the sounds of shouting he heard from far off).[sblock=Michael: ]Michael hadn't ridden far when he came across most of his band in the forest: Hulgyr mounted, Eternity dismounted and holding the reins to Kailie, and Zaeryl on foot dragging the limp form of one of the soldiers behind him. Alas, Ironwolf was not to be seen.[/sblock]Almayce 1[/sblock]Hulgyr 10
Ironwolf 8
Zaeryl 8
Eternity 8
Almayce 1

(OOC: Wait a minute--if Michael sees Eternity then shouldn't that mean pretty much everyone is where Zaeryl is--I'm confused because there was not SBLOCK for us last round)

*Zaeryl lets Hulgyr take the soldier if he wants. He'll wait to see if Almayce shows up with his horse--hopefully this will occur.*

OoC: Sorry, I was in a bit of a hurry last post. Let me try to make amends...

Round 12 - Ironwolf up[sblock=Michael, Almayce: ]- Michael rode away into the forest.[sblock=Michael: ]- Michael found Hulgyr, Zaeryl, Eternity, and a soldier.[/sblock]Almayce 1[/sblock][sblock=Hulgry, Zaeryl, Eternity: ]Michael rides up, leading what appears to be Ironwolf's horse by the reins.

Hulgyr demanded that Zaeryl hand over the unconscious or dead soldier.

OoC: I'm treating this as readying an action...if Zaeryl hands over the soldier, Hulgyr can act. Actually, that's pretty much a given, per RA's last post.

Zaeryl 8
Eternity 8[/sblock]
Ironwolf 8
Zaeryl 8
Eternity 8
Almayce 1

OoC: And no, Ironwolf hasn't seen anything yet, although he does hear some (heated) discussion and thinks he recognizes the voices as belonging to party members. He's pretty sure he knows exactly where Zaeryl went, and should be able to follow him without difficulty.

Irritation at Zaeryl is quickly replaced by panic as Michael announces the imminent arrival of more soldiers. Eternity wishes she could help the soldier or at least make sure he wont die, but if they all died then the people of Duvik would be lost for sure. She remounts Kailie, ready to ride (and will indicate to Kailie to follow the others as they move beyond her).

 That's not the action I posted, see post 785.
OoC: I know I have that Dispel Confusion scroll around here somewhere...

Ok, here's what's happened. Ironwolf did the actions that I took license with on Turn 11. Patlin then posted Ironwolf's Turn 12 actions before I finished Turn 11. (Nothing wrong with that.) Then he complained that I'd misinterpreted his actions in my Turn 11 write-up, referring to Ironwood's Turn 12 actions. Silly me, I thought he was just complaining about what I'd written for Turn 11, so I neglected to study what he posted closely enough to discern that he was talking about Turn 12 and I was still talking about Turn 11. So, when I finished Turn 11, I ran through the initiative order for Turn 12 until I got to Ironwood. Then I waited for Patlin to post Ironwood's Turn 12 actions, not realizing that he had already done so.

Sometimes, I outsmart myself. This is one of those times...

Ok, now that all that's resolved:

Turn 12 - Hulgyr up again[sblock=Michael, Almayce: ]- Michael rode away into the forest.[sblock=Michael: ]- Michael found Hulgyr, Zaeryl, Eternity, and a soldier.[/sblock]Almayce 1[/sblock][sblock=Hulgyr, Zaeryl, Eternity: ]- Michael rode up with Ironwood's horsey
- Hulgyr told Zaeryl to let him give the soldier a piggy-back ride
- Zaeryl said, "OK", and let Hulgyr play with the soldier

OoC: As I understand this, both Hulgyr and Zaeryl have a move action left this turn after transfering the soldier. But I understand that Zaeryl is readying the last part of his action based on what Almayce does.

IC: Eternity remounted Kailie, and glanced around at the others, ready to ride away.

OoC: Um, I think that counts as readying a move action, too.

IC: All four of the adventurers (counting Michael) heard something crashing through the forest towards them from the direction of Duvik. Zaeryl seemed confident that it must be Ironwolf. The others weren't so sure.[/sblock][sblock=Ironwolf: ]Satisfied that the soldier could no longer harm anyone in the party, Ironwolf hoisted him back atop his shoulders and started striding toward the place where he had left his mount. He could not yet see the other party members, but judging from their bickering, they must be just past the next few trees...[/sblock]Ok, the intiative order is a little scrambled. But here's what I think I have left:

Hulgyr 8
Eternity 8
Almayce 1
Zaeryl 1

(OOC: Not quite but almost--Zaeryl is not readying but delaying, having taken no action in this round (he didn't help Hulgyr with the soldier, he just didn't move yet, as Hulgyr requested))
