D20 Apocalypse Designers - Q&A Here

I haven't had a chance to get it yet, but I'm curious what classes and creatures are available in the book? I had heard that there was a "zombie apocalypse" idea and I was also wondering if there was material to support this or if it was a paragraphed option? Any rules on modifying equipment? Like jury-rigging a car or making make-shift weaponry?

So when might we see a d20 version of the Darkland Empire in stores near us? ;)

(I very much prefer Alternity and that is one of the better submissions to Action Check.)

Questions-
Why isn't there any rules (or additional rules) for mutant animals as PCs?

If you had your druthers, would you have increased or decreased the pages devoted to the example settings?

Comments- This is a good book. The only other rpg book that I know of that covers the same idea is GURPS Y2K and D20AP is almost to that level of cool. I hope that you do get a chance to work on a PA setting with the OGC that you have written (be it DW or some other setting).

Hehe, I was wondering if anyone was going to catch that. Bruce Cordell was the full time R&D guy who kind of organized this thing. He approved the revamping of that material, although the spelling of the character names was intentionally changed. I ended up reworking a lot of that material for a couple games I ran in Pullman a few years back.

This is one of those areas where I was only involved in the periphery of the discussions. Basically it came down to the fact that we were working with a limited amount of space anf there were a number of areas where mutant animals can already be pulled from. There are the moreaus, then you can always apply a template to the existing animals. In addition to that, you can always borrow the dire animals from D&D. The list goes on. I very much agree that mutated animals should play an important role in the game, but it didn't seem like the type of thing that should end up in this book.

Oh, absolutely I would have loved to multiply the amount of space for each setting by a multiple of five. One of the pet projects I'm going to have going on my messageboards is to add some unofficial material to Atomic Sunrise.

Thank you! There actually has been some discussion about doing some DW material. We've talked about doing yet another (completely different) version of my hometown (yes, I'm a bit obsessed with it). Actually its more than discussion, but I've been too darned busy with the WotC stuff lately to get to it. It is definitely on the list of things to work on soon.

You get four classes in this book: The Road Warrior, the Salvager, the Lawbringer, and the Evolutionary.

The zombie apocalypse is present in the form of the viral deathspawn template.

There is a section on making and fixing items. Eric wrote the rules for modifying and overloading vehicles.

Woot! You're going to do some DW stuff?
(is that a maybe or a confirmed?) :)

I'm a HUGE Post Apocalyptic genre fan, having grown up gaming during the cold war, with our president's sometimes shaky finger over the button... so... we considered it survival scenarios. :)

It's pretty sure. I have to actually sit down and write the stuff. :D It probably won't be anything huge, at least not at first, but I do have something special planned, and RPG Objects' Chris has expressed an interest in it.

I'm trying to remember when I fell in love with the genre. I'm not positive which it was, but it was definitely either when I first saw the Road Warrior or when I played Fallout. During the '80s I was pretty young and Gamma World hit too close to home. I was very much afraid of nuclear war back them. Scared the crap out of me.

Right on!
Chris is GREAT to work with.
And of course, Darwin's World 2 just totally rocks, anyway.
I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing what you do in the setting.

You might be the wrong person to ask...
But...
Do you have any idea when D20 Apocalypse might hit the SRD?

Oh Lord...that one word, "lawbringer," makes me want to play a servant of Menoth bringing the True Law into the wastes of the far-future Iron Kingdoms...

This thread has pretty much sold me on d20: Apocalypse.
I know what you mean! I'm not even into the whole "Apocalypse" theme, and didn't even take a second glance at this book. But man... this thread changed my mind. I might buy it just for the sake of the gaming group! Those lucky bastards :D

I just ordered mine. :)

What is the Viral Deathspawn like? Is it a fast moving zombie?

I want to run a Dawn of the Dead type campaign. :)

I just ran my first session of a Fallout-based game yesterday, but without d20 Apocalypse (though I checked two stores the morning of to see if I could snag a copy). After the session, a player went out and got the book for me, and has spoken to me briefly about Trade Units.

Speak to me of these Trade Units, Mr. Drader, if you please. Particularly regarding bartering and conversion from Wealth bonus to TUs. Thanks!
