d20 converions

I'm currently working on a d20 conversion and would like to have some samples to use as guidelines. Is there a product that is known for having a particularly good d20 conversion? Any publishers have any formats or templates that they would like to share? Any general gamers want to share what info they expect to be included in a d20 conversion?

Check out the ENWorld Conversion Libary if you are talking about converting older D&D/AD&D stuff to D20
http://www.enworld.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=7

It has the Wotc Guidelines and a sample template along with a bunch of conversions of modules.

If you are talking about converting from other game systems then it is a little different. I would suggest looking at how Wotc did Call of Cthuthlu, which most everyone agrees was a good conversion from BRP to D20.

I'm needing to convert a completely different system to the d20 system. I'm mostly wanting to create a character concerter and am not worrying about comparing the other game mechanics. I'll research Call of Cthuthlu and any other products that people suggest.

Thanks

BESM did it, GOO did it as well as a few Feng Shui dual stat products (Atlas). Hope that helps.

I invite you to check out our Action! System Conversion Notes #1: d20 document. You can download it (free) from the Action! System web site or from RPGNow.com.

And it's an OGL document, to boot (naturally). ;)

I checked it out and it was very useful---this is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Anymore good examples that people would like to share?

General advice, know the d20 system well, D20 Dragonlords of Melnibone was one of the first d20 conversions (it did Elric/Stormbringer game) and did not do so well with monsters being a bit off (their dragon has cut and pasted unconverted material) and their demon rules not really useable in practice due to the level of cost it imposed.

Figure out if you want a full conversion to d20 D&D standard or an adaptation of d20 to better fit the mode of your source material. For instance BESM d20 does a bunch of monkeying with d20 standard mechanics to get the mechanical feel they want for the anime RPG genre.

D&D's high hit points mechanic and armor as hit avoidance instead of damage reduction and vancian magic are different from most other systems, many OGL/d20 games change some of these mechanics for their system, decide if you want to.
