[d20 Future/OOC] The Long Sleep

Ahem. Well. Yes.

HOWEVER. Ummm...Zomb never said anything about being a pilot in the Navy. In fact he specifically said he liked boats. And planes never go on boats. Ever!

:heh:

Besides that was his second choice. Yes. :)

Hee. Seriously though, if there's overlap, I can change... I just liked the idea of playing a shot that is hot. Most of my characters are so...studied in their approaches. I like the idea of someone that shoots from the hip, and does so brilliantly. :)

Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you...
Lem Sobieski (CR 2) (1000 XP)
Male human Tough 1/Charismatic 1
Occupation Military

Background
People thought that as civilization progressed, life would get better. People would be more peaceable. Life would be grand.

As usual, they were wrong.

Lem was a ground pounder, plain and simple. He'd joined up with the expanded NATO forces post Iraq, and while he did not enjoy his job, he was good at it. His massive Slavic frame helped a bunch here, and his pessimistic Polish attitude kept him from getting in over his head. He was his contingent's luck charm, having taken more punishment any thought possible while keeping his fellow's morale up. After seeing action and taking bits of metal from about every continent you could think of, some of the higher-ups got the bright idea that Lem would make a decent leader, and put him in First Sergeant training.

Then the whole Apophis fiasco started.

Lem doesn't know how it happened, but he figured that some higher up decided that they needed some real military expertise on board the various star-boats "just-in-case." So, somehow, Lem was placed as part of the marine contingent on the HMCS Hope, in charge of a small troop of NCO's with a few CO's in charge of him. He did not like it, but not having any living family made the decision easy for the higher ups.

Just don't call him a Space Marine.

Concept
Lem is your grizzled space marine (no matter what he thinks) with a lot of practical military experience, some leadership training, and would probably go for the Field Officer PrC.

You know...

You know what... I'm liking what I've seen in regards to backgrounds so far. I'm going to stop accepting prospects. You are all in. :) No alternate, I can handle six players.

Feel free to start building your characters. Use Invisible Castle under the Character Name "TheLongSleep". Don't forget to state your character's name and why you are rolling in the Notes section.

----

Regarding gear. Feel free to buy some general stuff. Most equipment will be requisitioned from the HMCS Hope. That said, you'll probably want to buy your own occupation specific gear. Military guys might want to buy a pistol, doctors might want a medkit. No one is expecting you to own a rocket launcher or an full, hospital-grade surgery kit. Aesthically speaking, look at page 63 to get a general feel for the look of your gear.

Progress Level. The human survivors are at Progress Level Six. All Progress Level Five gear is at -2 of its regular purchase DC. Progress Level Seven gear is not available. Laser weaponry was perfected before departure. High-frequency swords were never used on the battlefield, but proved popular among civilians. Armature and Biomorph robots were common on Earth. And a few Armature-based repair drones wander the hallways of the Hope. Cybernetic prosthetic limbs and organs exist (PL5 and PL6 only). All PCs get a free "Identity Chip" implanted in their dominant hand. It acts as ID and a security card. The Identity Chip does not count toward the PCs maximum number of cybernetics. Survivors have very clean genetic codes, no mutations or genetic engineering is allowed.

Some ideas that could be developped (pending DM approbation):
- His academic papers could have been the basis for current propulsion systems/theories, so he'd be renowned by techs (he'd take the renown feat). Sort of like Tesla coming back from the past.
I like that idea, feel free to use it if you wish.
