I know that d20 Apocalypse is coming out in June but I have been thinking over how I want to build a possible Post Apocalyptic game using the d20 Modern and Future rules.
Here is my problem. The more I look at the rules the more I feel dissatisfied with them. While I think they would make a great foundation, I am having a hard time coming up with the type of game I want. Let me explain.
I am an old time Metamorphosis Alpha/Gamma World fan. I would like to have a wide range of mutations and psionic powers in the game. I would like to have mutated animals, plants, and robots as possible player characters. But I keep hitting a wall because of the inherent limits on a character's power level due to his character level. A first level guy could not have a powerful eye beam attack, multiple powers, etc....
How does a mutant suddenly grow a new head at 5th level?
How do you scale powers per character level without severely limiting them or grossly unbalancing the game?
How do you equalize a mutant with several "neat" powers with a normal human of the same level?
Any suggestions or comments?
