D20 Modern and Maps

BrooklynKnight

First Post
hey all.
I'm planning to write a map book with someone for d20modern pretty soon. I've seen the terrible, uh, war in other parts of the boards and would like to stray from that. But my question is this.

What do YOU as a DM, or a gamer, want to see in your d20modern maps....Let me know, and me and my cartographer will try to give it you.

(Btw, we promise free previews.)

I'd like to see a city (or more than one) mapped, with a large area map that has the whole city and smaller maps that show different areas of the city in greater detail...

I have the personal preference of using unmarked maps, but I can live with them.
Aside from that, I'd like to see some generic facility maps. And some sewer/underground drainage tunnel maps.

Cheers!

More specialised locations. For example an airport (not just the terminals, although they would make good 5x5 grid maps, but an overview of the runways, terminals and maintenance buildings).

Pick a city. Find any landmark buildings or any useful locations in that city, map it out, and overlay them with a 5x5 grid.

It can be a train station, subway station, bus station, library, science museum, boardwalk, theme park, government building, office building, cruise liner, yacht, power plant, harbor, pier, warehouse, discotheque, and many other previously mentioned as well future suggestions.

Oh, and instructions as to how large must I enlarge them to get the size of the map with 1-inch squares.

I, too would like instructions on how to enlarge to 1" grids for use with miniatures. That would be great!

But I would also like to have some more unusual settings--movie theaters, performance theatres, large hotel lobbies with restaurants and escalators, underground military bunkers, airports and hangars, manufacturing plants (that create everything from ice cream or hotdogs to bluejeans or turpentine), gas stations and quickie marts.

Also, something that I would really like is a back alley map, with dumpsters and trash, etc , with keys to the surrounding buildings. Outdoor maps are not always considered as important as interior buildings, but are easier to use for large scale battles (for those with large, explosivbe, cop-riddled campaigns...)

--Just my two cents!

what i want from a map is more than just a map :)

anyhting made to scale is a map, i want the added goodness that lets players go crazy, be brave or make decisions.

things like:

cover
innocent bystanders
things that explode or catch fire if shot
fragile crap marked, also impenetrable crap marked
catwalks, pits, ledges and stairs
multiple levels on one map
dc's printed for tasks (jumping the railing, running down the steps, climbing the sculpture)
distance form map of nearest authorities, and reaction times

stuff like this that can make any combat or game more memorable. a warehouse is a decent map, but a mall with 3 raised platforms, pillars and a few glass walls with a daycare and a fountain rocks :)

also, some notable but common places- bridges, ferries, parking structures, maybe a gas station.

i think the added value of dc's and flammables and such would really seperate your product form "the crowd"

good luck :)

Top secret Facilities.

Prisons

Alsih2o, I agree with you on everything except on DC's for tasks (DM specific I believe, and he's going to catch all kind of grief if he "arbitrarily" sets the DCs) as well as distance from authorities and reaction times. I know there's a dearth (sp?) of modern materials out there, but setting response times depends on the GM as well. I'd like maps to have this particular info (simplifies alot, cut's down on "on the fly" judgements) but some people "will" argue. :D

Those are just my 2 cents.
