D20 Modern in 2007?

Farm the supplements to 3rd parties?

Or Hasbro manages to get exclusives from Marvel (toys, games and related merchandise), part of which gets funnelled into a supplements for d20 Modern / d20 Spectaculars.

Ok, I... I got nothing. :(

Yeah, but the majority of d20 Modern fans want WotC to do it. Trust me, I tried pointing them toward Blood and Vigilance when d20 Spectaculars is not going to be released yet.

Can Mike Mearls outdo Charles Rice's works?

*shudders*

I have my doubts on that.

It's all about risk versus reward.

WOTC is going to make a high quality product, hard cover, in color, with a big print run. They have employees on salary, who actually have, like, benefits and stuff.

That's the risk side.

Which means the reward side has to be big.

Now Blood and Vigilance has been a nice, long-term success for me, but it's exceeded MY expectations in a lot of ways.

If I were in charge of WOTC, I doubt I would do a d20 Modern-based supers game.

Looking at book choices I've made, or Dog House Rules, or Adamant, or Ronin Arts isn't really constructive in determining what WOTC should do.

They're in a different business than I am for all intents and purposes.

Based on what I have seen of the past work of each and what I specifically tend to look for, I have my doubts. Mike has done some things I liked, but Charles's work has made him one of my two favorite designers (with the other being the author of my favorite shadowrun and third party DND supplements in addition to a certain supers game mentioned earlier ).

Of course Mike's fans will beg to differ . Furthermore, I don't necessarily rule Mike out. When he does something that I like, I am very impressed with it :P

Well with d20 Wild West, they could convert old Boot Hill stuff. Ditto with Roaring Twenties and Gangbusters. Precedent has been set with Star Frontiers (and the Alternity stuff) in d20 Future. Doubtful it would happen without renegotiation but there's a lot of Marvel Superhero stuff (99.99% of which is out of date comicwise now).

I'm not sure how much of that old Boot Hill and Gangbusters stuff would even be salvageable. Expectations have changed quite a bit.

Also...I dunno if anyone really wants to play "The Untouchables RPG" these days (i.e., straight up fedoras and tommy guns, no rocket men or Oriental masterminds or ninjas).

[Although now that I type that, I kinda like the idea of Eliot Ness vs. Fu Manchu / Cthuhlu / Martians . . . straight-arrow G-men in a world gone fantastic.]

I don't know what you mean.

Yeah...the PCs are straight-arrow All-American 1930s G-Men, and every case pits them against a new mad scientist, alien invader, or Thing Man Was Not Meant to Know.

"The Pulp Files".
