So order it from Amazon.com. I should have my copy next week. :D

Next week! No! Must have now!

(Sorry, I tend to become a bit inarticulate when it comes to new releases that I must have. :) )

Treat Injury (the Heal equivalent) has some hit point restoring uses.

With a medical kit a DC 15 check heals 1d4 hp

Surgery (DC 20 but -4 on your roll unless you have Surgery feat) with a surgery kit heals 1d6/ character level but requires 1d4 + 1/per hp below 0 hours to do.

Dedicated Heroes have a Heaing Talent tree that gives bonuses to the skill check and hp rolls.

I'm curious about one thing specifically, the vampire template. Did they make any changes beyond setting fluff? Have they clarified mechanically some of the less defined weaknesses (like what exactly constitutes a strongly present holy symbol). What about feeding requirements, has this been added or once again glossed over because the assumption is it's just there for your PC's to beat on?

Thanks.

This strikes me as odd. There's a Surgery skill, and you need to take a feat just to use the skill without penalty? Sounds kludgey

Thanks for the info, PB!

The Surgery Feat covers the special education and training needed to become a competent surgeon. Without it a physician could do surgery, but he lacks the experience and confidence needed to do it well.

Bah!

US $39.95 CAN $55.95

I don't understand why so many folks continue to waste money like this.

Amazon says:
List Price: $39.95
Price: $27.97 & This item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping. See details.
You Save: $11.98 (30%)

They might ship on 8 November. I've got no pressing need for the book, but it's on order. I'll turn those $12 into miniatures, dice, MWDA, or half of another book.

In the meantime, my BoVD cost $25.10 after taxes (I live in WA, where Amazon is HQ'd). Shipping, of course, was free.

I think it's the "no pressing need" part that makes a difference. If I make an order Amazon, I don't want to get an email sometime the next week telling me that my order has been processed (whatever "processed" really means), and that it'll arrive in 8-10 days or so. This is what happened when I tried to pre-order BoVD and the game "Earth & Beyond". In both cases, it turned out that I could get the book sooner just by going out and getting it. And since I wanted it NOW, I cancelled my order. That's a pretty common story for many folks.

I can understand that for pre-orders. They are, by definition, orders made before the product is available. ;) Since Federal law prevents the mail order house (Amazon) from charging you before it ships, your money is in your account until your order is on the way.

My experience has been: place order, receive shipment confirmation within 24 hours, receive shipment in 7 days. Every time. I tend to order Sundays, get e-mail Monday saying it's on its way, and track it through to next Monday and, when I get lucky, sometimes Friday.

Though I'm all for supporting my FLGS when I have one,* I'm even more all for stocking my shelves full of fun books to read. Some folks think having a book a few days early is worth the extra cost. I'm not one of those, despite a decent disposable income.

Then again I'm a severe impulse buyer. Maybe I'm just rationalizing my purchases.

* Yes, I've had a FLGS in the distant past. Not now. I'm surrounded by Wizards stores or gaming stores that have no interest in collecting my dollars.

In the case of the former, I hate buying from them because they are literally unapologetic about having MUCH higher prices than other gaming stores in the area, let alone Amazon. In the case of the latter, the staff is obnoxious in some way or does nothing to engage customers when they walk in the door. I've entered a store to silence with a buddy and watched people enter and leave without a word being spoken by the gamer stereotype behind the counter more than once, by more than one stereotype. My money goes elsewhere.

Maybe I was spoiled by the game stores in NY, VA, and NC. Maybe I keep walking in on their bad days. Doesn't matter to me - I no longer shop there. :)

The best store in the area is WizKids in Redmond. Sadly, it's too far for me to visit casually.

Surgery isn't a skill, it is a specialized use of the Treat Injury skill.

There is no Surgery Skill, Surgery is a function of the Treat Injury skill much like Feighning in Combat is a function of the Bluff skill, just a different way to use the skill.

The Surgery feat allows you to use this function of the skill without penalty, there is no penalty to other functions of the Treat Injury skill
