d20 Modern or Spycraft?

Some friends and I are thinking about possibly starting a campaign with a "la femme nikita" type flavor. Not having any experience with either, which would be a better product to use, d20 modern or spycraft? Thanks.

I have not played Spycraft. I hear it provides a lot of setting though and d20 Modern is generic.

That said, I'm in a d20 Modern game and loving it. Also, the d20 Modern rules are free, which can be of great comfort in those early stages when you're not sure long the campaign will really last.

D20 Modern is much more generic in feel and can be adapted to any number of different types of modern campaigns.

Spycraft is much more tailored to the epsionage genre. But it does so spectacularly. If you plan on only running a "La Femme Nikita" type game, Spycraft is a much better choice and the main Spycraft book is not setting specific.

I like Spycraft much more than d20 Modern.

If you aren't going to stick with the spy genre then d20 Modern may be the way to go for you.

I picked up Spycraft last week based on the recommendations from this board, and can say I don't regret the purchase one bit.

I'm planning on using D20 Modern for a conversion of Shadowrun and Spycraft for a more Deus Ex-ish campaign, if that ever gets off the ground. If that tells you anything.

I think for a modern technothriller campaign that emulates TV shows, Syphon Filter, Metal Gear etc. Spycraft is definitely the way to go. That said, even if you use another system it'll come in handy (I like the classes WAY more than the D20M ones, and the final chapter on structure of an evil organization is good too).

Spycraft kicks butt when it comes to cinematic Espionage games

Modern needs more work to get it to go cinematic espionage (and the feats suck in comparison to Spycraft)

I'd say get Spycraft and use the Modern SRD for variants and ideas:)

I'll be starting in a Spycraft campaign soon (plan to play a Faceman/Snoop 3/2!) but for kicks I am going to make the same character in d20 Modern, just to see the differences. :)

But offhand, I'd say ya, why not pick up the spy game with all the spy-y stuff - less work for you, and still compatible.

I'd go for d20 Modern, simply because it'll be the standard for modern play from now on. With Spycraft, you're stuck with what AEG gives you, whereas lots of companies are producing d20 Modern stuff.

I have both and they are both awesome systems. The main advantage of Spycraft is that you are not forced to take the core stat classes like you are in the Modern rules. The problem with Spycraft is if you want psionics in your games, you would have to buy a second book and this is not so in Modern. My suggestion is to buy both books and blend as you see fit.
