D20 Morrowind?

The Baron

First Post
Has anyone ever thought of trying to convert Morrowind into a d20 system? I've been addicted to that game for the past few weeks and I think it would be fun to do a table top version of it. I'm only familiar with the d20 system, but I think it would still be possible.

The most complex problem seems to be the magic system - organizing new spell lists, using a magic points system, letting players scale the power of their spells, enchanting, alchemy. It feels pretty daunting, but perhaps if some other people could toss in ideas or help, it could be done.

And could magic work like a skill? I.E - try to cast level 1 spell, make a conjuration skill check vs. DC 15+spell level (or perhaps point value)?

The most fun part for me would be creating the new core classes - Nightblade, Agent, Witchhunter? Sign me up!

Anyone interested in this concept? Want to share some ideas?

I've actually pondered this myself. Morrowind and Fable, either one.

However...

I really would think GURPS could do it better. You've already got a scalable, skill-based magic system there.

Or HARP, though I haven't picked that up yet. It also has a scalable magic system.

i've also been contemplating HARP, but more for the piecemeal armour rules (i've loved collectings bits of armour since Daggerfall) tho i havent really gotten to grips with the magic system yet..

i wouldnt actually classify Morrowinds magic as 'scalable' more that it has a meta-game* way of instantly researching and learning a new spell with similar effects, which wouldnt necessarily need to be included in a P&P version, i think the best (pre-existing) d20 magic system to use would be either from Sovereign Stone or Midnight, as for classes.. i'm actually more for having Witchhunter, Nightblade etc as concepts around which you base your class selection rather than having them as actual classes

PS i think this is only about the 2nd thread i have EVER seen anywhere about using Morrowind/Elder Scrolls for a Pen & Paper game! which is rather amazine given that the setting is a) Brilliant and b) actually had an article in Dragon

*something to facilitate play rather than to represent the setting, eg: there are no children in Morrowind, not because fluffwise there are no children in the Vvardenfell but because if they had included them in the game they would have either had to make them impervious to all damage, or else been slapped with an 18 certificate due the ability of the player to kill children, so they simply left them out

The wandering monster rules would have to be changed. For every hour of travel, roll 1d6. That's how many cliff racers attack you. :p

I love Morrowind , spent about two months of my life doing almost nothing but play it a while back.

Apparently the world is based on the campaign setting for a D&D game played by some of the UbiSoft employees. If you could get the stats for that setting...

Aint that the damn truth. Don't forget every hour spent Belamora you have 1d4 cliff racers attack. I liked walking through town and looking up in time to see a cliff racer attack me.

And if I ever see any Saltrice again it will be to soon.
