d20 Prime Directive

I would disagree with this. In the original Star Trek, Star Fleet is most definitely a military ogranization. Yeah, the Enterprise was mostly used for exploration, but it was a Heavy Cruiser. Other ships in its class were the Yorktown and the Lexington, both named after very famous warships.
So's the Endeavor, and Captain Cook who flew the British Navy colors that founded Hawaii (though he named it Sandwich Isles), were one of those gentleman officers and explorers.

So, if you're comparing Roddenberry version of Star Trek star fleet to the early-days of a loose military/exploration fleet, then in a way you're right.

But if you're comparing it to today's modern fleet, you might find it just one aspect of the exploration organization.

I know a lot of people who really like SFB and, as long as they don't call it Star Trek, I am find with it. Most of the people who like SFB and PD also love the Honor Harrington books. Personally, I would wish for a Honor Harrington rpg, thus preserving Star Trek as Star Trek.
To be honest, there is really no right or wrong way to play Star Trek. Some will focus on military aspect (the action-adventure), others will focus on scientific exploration (the cerebral), and while others like to mix up the two.

If we start trying to tell people how they should play you might find yourself turning people off and you might be taken for an elitist, whereas I want to make RPG hobby as mainstream as possible (a lofty goal).

I guess the question is, will this really require the PHB, or will it be virtual OGL, with pretty much everything in there except some details on XPs and advancement

It will require the PHB. Only the new feats and skills are described in the PD20 book.

Good. Sounds perfect to me. I like the d20 rules set; d20 Modern just doesn't appeal to me as much. I'll probably pick up the core book ASAP. By June, my cross-genre Shackled City game will probably need a PD20 away team to be introduced through some sort of transporter mishap. Klingons & Romulans can't be far behind.

I really hope there are published adventure modules for PD20. I see a couple on the web site or production schedule for GPD, so hopefully those will make it to PD20. The publisher also notes that some PD20 scenarios may be developed and then converted to GPD. Either way, modules are good. Maybe I'll get to use that DargonStar Raw Recruits adventure after all.

If I can get my FLGS to order the "Inns and Taverns" book, then I can check it out.

Eden may not have released it yet, they were having some issues over it. Im not sure what the skinny is concerning that book.

Are you able to disclose at this time that the d20 version of PD will be carrying the d20 logo or not?

It will contain the d20 logo on the cover. I imagine it will say it right where it says "Powered by Gurps" on the GURPS version.

P.S. I'm surprised ADB didn't ask you to do an Action! version.

I’m not; they are really not that familiar with the Action! System, maybe one of these days they will decide they want one and I will write that one as well.

As I seem to recall, you can fulfill this particular part of the d20 System License Agreement with one of three lines:

<SNIP>
And when it comes the the Second Wprld Sourcebook by Second World Simulations, they have the following of their back cover:

Requires the use of the Dungeons & Dragons® Player's Handbook, Third Edition, published by Wizards of the Coast®

Requires the use of the d20 Modern™ Roleplaying Game, published by Wizards of the Coast®

Will you limit yourself to using just the 3.5e SRD, or will you incorporate material from both SRD and MSRD into the product?
