D20 Products And D&d 3.5 Compatibility

sotterraneo

First Post
I was perusing in a supplier's catalog and I noticed the announcement about Monte Cook's (did you know 'Monte' means 'Mountain' in Italian?) Arcana Unearthed book: it seems an excellent product, one that will perform well (the fact is in English of course will impact sales here, but this is not a concern for you) and I was thinking about ordering some copies. Then I wondered: what about this book's compatibility with the D&D 3.5? Yes, I know the book is an 'alternate' PH, but it has been designed I suppose as an alternative to the old. What about the new PH? My customers (and the customers of many fellow retailers around the world) will surely ask me about that - what should I say about that?

I know that Hasborg has stated that nothing will be made obsolete with D&D 3.5, but after seeing their press release I got suspicious: 'key books'? What about the others? An entire guide to have reverse compatibility? Then the trasition might not be so hassles free. And why Diamond/Alliance is liquidating so much D&D books at bargain prices (I know, I receive their retailers' bullettin)? Perhaps they know something we don't?

It uses a lot of 3.5 info but has a lot of its own unique stuff as well, but it is made with 3.5 in mind, and is an excellent product.

Having read 3.5, I think I can tell you this without violating my NDA.

I think the guide to using the old stuff with the new books is a courtesy for people who might be nervous.

I don't think you will have any trouble running anything written for 3.0 with 3.5, and that includes Monte's book(s).
