They certainly didn't pay 50 million or Honor Among Thieves. They didn't even get the rights in the US.

I'm aware. I'm saying tbe movies success on streaming probably won't generate a sequel because it's all about the money.

The amount of money list on HAT is tens of millions of dollars and unknown marketing budget. Hasbro alone lost 25 million.

With streaming cutting budgets and content I don't see anyone green lighting a new movie anytime soon. To much money lost.

A lower budget D&D movie would have to be around half the cost. Consider what type of special effects you can get with that budget.

Would WotC pony up tension of millions more and I don't see a studio dumping 100-150+ million on it.

That's not what an impairment means. It meant that it underperformed significantly enough that it didn't meet the expectations. Not that Hasbro lost 25 million.
The marketing costs were both reported by Paramount and Hasbro. It was lower than the 50% often cited as standard. But I'm not going to sort through their last seven quarterly reports to show you, again.

No studio every put that much into it. Paramount put about 75 million into production costs as the deal was reported as an even split.

I mean, the low-energy marketing played some part in the theatrical underperformance.

Aware. Hasbro would have to pony up a lot of money before a studio would even consider making a sequel imho.

We have been telling you this for a long time. The movie flopped hard. No studio will touch it unless Hasbro is willing to pony up tens of millions of dollars. Probably more than half.

If it was my own money on HATs budget Hasbro would have to front 100 million plus marketing costs. Otherwise it makes little sense.

Did they get a nice rebate though for filming in UK? That might cover a nice chunk of the marketing budget.

I didn't even know it was a flop. I think it benefits from being compared to the absolutely atrocious prior attempts at a D&D movie but I liked it. At minimum 2 hours of entertainment.

if you are going to have small species within the world of the film, casting size-appropriate actors for those parts rather than digitally shrinking larger actors would be both beneficial for more acting opportunities for those actors, plus save gobs of money on special effects.
I don’t think casting Peter Dinklage as Frodo would have saved LotR a ton of money

Yes, while never clicking on any evidence that you were wrong -- like the dramatic increase in searches for D&D, the massive interest on streaming that has now lasted 20 months, etc.

Which is what the movie being filmed in non-covid restrictions would cost. As linked earlier.

Intersest doesn't pay the bill.

I'm talking cold hard cash people are willing to pay. How many subscribed to whatever specifically to watch HAT.

I'm gonna watch it on Netflix. It gets bundled with ISP. Presumably Netflix gets money from ISP regardless if I watch HAT or not.

Internet buzz is exactly that. Cold hard cash matters.
