Daggerheart Class Packs kickstarter is live.

I have no idea what the economics of producing this type of product line is, but I can’t help but wonder if a cheaper and less premium version of the card packs would’ve been the better approach. A single pack contains 70 something premium sized cards, but the usability of a single pack is relatively restricted since the bulk of the cards will be from two domains. If you’re using a single pack later, it’s only partially useful if you’re playing another class, and even then the other class has to share a domain. And the other domain cards that aren’t from this pack you purchased would be the smaller ones from the core set.

A single pack in the KS is really pricy for how much usability you get. It’s really a premium type of product first, utility second. Imagine instead if you could get a less fancy pack for half the price. I think that would attract a wider audience.

Also I don’t understand the pricing. Could get two core sets for the price of getting all the cards. Granted you’ll get a lot is duplicates.
I reckon they want people who want lots to buy the Core set: this is reasonable priced for people who only want to play their Class, I guess.

Really feel like they should have done a KS for the core set to start with, would have made the supply issues way less pressing...and would have been more buzzy, because this product my be a bit niche.

An interesting aspect of this KS is that it is really player focused. If it only gets 1000 backers or so, what does that say (if anything) about the excitement of the player base?

I somewhat disagree. The value proposition for a single set for a player is actually kind of amazing. 72 cards you can use for an entire campaign for $25 is pretty good, particularly if they're oversized and at all the quality of the ones in the core set, or better yet, the variant art ancestry cards in the CR 10th Anniversary Promo set.

Where it loses value is in buying more than one set. As you stack up on duplicates and get to a point where only the subclass cards are really unique anymore, it very quickly becomes less worth it because a lot of those duplicates aren't going to see use. That the all in set is full price (well, 9 for the price of 7) is understandable but really kills the desire to go in that hard unless you're a GM who really wants to have all the bases covered.

I was initially excited to back this, but that price point for all 9 packs really gave me pause. I feel like I would be better off buying more core sets and giving the extra books to my players.

The individual boxes aren’t bad as a price point, considering you get the rules pdf with it, but not as great of a deal for going all in.

Yeah, this is a pass for me, but that's 'cause I have my box set, and I got severe sticker shock from the set price. I hope the KS goes well, and I do see this as a useful secondary product. But I got my full set for less than the price of backing two class kits and can't justify this expense.
