Daggerheart survey from Darrington Press

God, I'm old.
"Old" is kind of why I play on a VTT.

Folks end up having work, distance, kids, and so on that necessitate online.

Also had way too many weird or awkward in person gaming moments and just don't want to deal with that anymore.

But I also don't need a million digital tools. Just a solid VTT. That is NOT roll20 or Fantasy Grounds BTW. It's probably Foundry, but it could be Owlbear given my style is headed to theater of the mind. But in the present day offerings, it's Foundry.

If they want to monetize things - give me more books (print and PDF) with content. Not apps.

You're right on the money there. The biggest reason I'm able to run the Cosmere TTRPG game I'm running is because we're doing it in Foundry. This means that people don't need to waste travel time and we can have a nice, tight 2 hours that fits into everyone's schedule - especially since we all have kids.

Yep. One of my last PF2E groups before I left them was a set of folks who were almost all local to each other. The pandemic pushed them into VTT space, and when it was over they decided to stay that way to avoid Los Angeles traffic... I was recruited in when they lost one person, but left some months later.

However - they all lived in various spots near enough to each other, but just had too much real life to be able to commute from work to a game and then home on a weeknight, and too much family to be able to game on a weekend.

I'm currently on an IRL kick for TTRPGs, because after online only during the pandemic I had had enough of all the issues with digital play, and missed the reactivity of irl play. But I still like apps for my tablet, and I see myself getting back into online play ... eventually

definitely advantages to each, including to hybrid play - like the tablets or using a screen to display a map. I get my in-person fix with the game I run for my kids. Online I get to run a couple games and also get to be a player in one.

We very much enjoy playing Daggerheart in person, and I enjoy running it at cons, but I am very happy that it has official FG support now so i can run it more often and for folks who don't like within 45 minutes drive.
