Dallas Gameday?

As a long-time patron of both GenX and Lone Star (when I moved to D/FW in the early '80's, I pointed at the corner of a strip mall and said "That's a perfect place for a game store!" and about a year later, Lone Star opened their Irving location there), I'd be in at any of their locations!

My only scheduling conflicts at this point would be not on a Tuesday (bowling/gaming night) or Wednesday night (Church coir practice), and I'm to take my Aunt & cousin to Sea World in San Antonio in May.

Who wants to DM/GM?

I'd like if we scheduled two sets of games, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. That way those that DM/GM one game also have an opportunity to play in another.

I've got a True20 one-shot that I've run before and used to introduce the game. It's a monster-hunter adventure that takes place in 1540's France. Inspiration is Three Musketeers and Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Start throwing out more ideas!

I haven't run a one-shot in more than a decade- heck, I haven't run a campaign in over 2 years- I fear I'd be a bit too rusty to do so. I'm happy to work support, but if called on to run a game (assuming I can make it), I would.

That said, it might be helpful if we listed our top 3 RPG systems- it might help shape who/what gets run!

I'm a big fan of HERO, D20, and M&M. I could run the first 2 with a bit of boning up (I haven't run D20 as anything but an FRPG), but I'll play anything.

I have access to a LOT of RPGs, albeit mostly older editions- besides the ones listed (which are current), I could supply some books for Paranoia (all eds), Palladium/BTS/Heroes, Inc./RIFTS, Traveller (all eds), GURPS (3ed), Stormbringer (1Ed), Earthdawn (1Ed), Shadowrun (1Ed), WoD (1Ed) + Scion, MechWarrior, Deadlands (1Ed & D20), Space:1889, Aberrant, Brave New World, Underground, and a whole bunch of D20 offshoots (Midnight 2Ed, Spycraft 2Ed, Iron Heroes, Swashbuckling Adventures, Northern Crown, Nyambe, etc.). No, that's not a complete list.

And I have minis & battlemats as well.

I would be interested, depending on when it is. I ran a Traveller D20 one-shot at the game day in Denton someone else mentioned.

Just a reminder: The weekend of July 5-8 is Origins. So that might not be a good weekend.

Not to mention that whole July 4 thing...

Yeah, that doesn't sound like the right weekend.

Traveller- in any form- is something else I'd enjoy (as well as Bento's suggestion).

I would definitely stick with a weekend. I can't imagine anyone showing up for a Tuesday/Wednesday game day.

The NC Game Day does a great job of organization. Typically, they have a Dinner at a restaurant on Friday night, and then game all day Saturday. Like, an 9:00 to 1:00 game, a 2:30 to 6:30 game, and then maybe an 8 to midnight game for those so inclined (for all the folks who don't have to drive back home, I s'pose).

That leaves some time in to eat lunch and then dinner on Saturday.

A game day I organized in Kansas City years ago, we took advantage of a hotel space. Most hotels don't really use their conference rooms on a Saturday - so check around. One of the guys in our game day, knew a guy who worked a hotel, and got a great rate on it. We all chipped in $5 to cover the cost, and it ended up being a great space for us, and held 30 people easily.

Game stores are nice, but you have to work around the store hours, and sometimes that can be a little restrictive. Plus, you've got all the foot traffic, which can be distracting. And, most of them tend to smell bad. :)

But, I'm not opposed to a game store location, mind you. Just, there are alternatives. You just have to do some more research. NC Game day holds theirs at one of the local colleges. I don't think it costs them anything.

I'd definitely be willing to run a game in either time slot. Standard D&D.

The hotel idea is pretty good, and in the same vein, you could say much the same about city civic centers. As I recall, there is one in Irving that is located in an art gallery, and is pretty close to a good barbecue space (Hobbi's, on Walnut Hill & MacArthur Blvd).

As for hotels, I recall the Hilton in Grapevine (near the Grapevine Mills Mall and the Gaylord Texas resort) was pretty nice- I once played in a M:tG tourney out there. Grapevine's advantages include a small town atmosphere with several nice dining & shopping (non-FLGS) opportunities on Main street.

I vote for somewhere within June 29 - July 1. :D

I'll be in Dallas those days, not that I think you should schedule this around me. But if it ended up being that weekend, that'd be cool.

I was thinking also about hotels, but between PC's post on hosting it in someone's home ( ) and another poster mentioning stores, I felt obligated to check it out. When I called GenX, the employee (who I've seen there for years) didn't know what ENW was. I'll probably get the same reaction from the owner of Lone Star.

There's quite a few hotels around the north end of the D/FW airport, and I wonder how busy they are on the weekends. With most of the action in town taking place near downtown Dallas or Arlington, I would think we could get space fairly easy. The big deal would be to come up with the money. Would people be willing to pony up money for space?

Another advantage for getting a hotel space near the north end is exactly what you mentioned - proximity to Grapevine, GV Mills Mall, the Gaylord, and Bass Pro. For any non-gamers who come along for the ride, there's plenty of other things to do while the rest of us are occupied.
