Dallas Gameday?

Yep that was the one. But it wasn't held at the comic shop, they just sponsored it. It was actually held an extra room at a bank, if I recall correctly.

yes, it was a community room at a bank that could be used for free, or something like that IIRC.

That reminds me - most cities in the metroplex have a civic center/town hall. The one in Richardson has been used for comic/sci-fi conventions. If each of us could contact not only their own city hall to check on space & prices, but do it for the surrounding towns, it could help get this organized.

I'd suggest setting the number at 40 participants, but perhaps ranging from 30 to 50.

I'll check Keller, Southlake, North Richland Hills and Grapevine.
Danny - can you check with Coppell, Irving, Carrollton and Farmer's Branch?
Caudor - Euless, Bedford & Hurst?
BluSponge - Lewisville, Frisco & Denton?

Do you communicate better here on the board or should we set up a Yahoo! Group and do this via e-mail?

A lot of VFW's and faternal lodges have spaces to rent out too, those might be worth checking out while checking on city convention space.

Here's what I found out for my area of town:

Keller Pointe
800 square foot room (approx 45 people) for 10 hours: $634

North Richland Hills Center Facility
800 square foot room (approx 45 people) for 10 hours: $256

Southlake: Nothing found on web site

Grapevine:
Bessie Mitchell House (parking up to 35 vehicles) for 9 hours: $450
Merlot Community House (unknown size) for 9 hours: $225
Residency required for rental

We'd definitely want to get it for all day on a Saturday, I think. From at least 8 to 8 (12 hours).

$256 divided by 20 people is $12 apiece. Remember, these prices are negotiable, too. Are these hotels you're looking at? Most hotels don't utilize their conference rooms on Saturdays, so it might be worth reminding them that you want their absolute lowest rate, because they either give you that - or they get nothing at all for that space on that day.

If I find some time, I might be able to call some of the hotels in the Plano area...

there was one about 3 or 4 years ago and that is the last one I remember seeing. It was held up in Denton not far from UNT.

Might you be thinking of the one that was held at the University of Dallas, two years ago this Spring? (Or three years ago, depending on how you count?)

I'm interested in DMing, probably 3.5 D&D. If the rest of you are interested in teaching me what's what, I'd be open to playing in something in another system as well.

I'm a student at UD, which is located right across Loop 12 from Texas Stadium. It's a centeral location with good access to all the highways. I'll have to check, but I may be able to wrangle use of one of the school's spaces for free. I seem to remember that the last time we did this, we weren't charged anything, but then that was during the school year. I don't know what their policy is over the summer.

Do you want me to ask about it?

YES! MOST DEFINATELY!!!

It will be on a Saturday, perhaps June 30th.

A college campus would probably be excellent for this kind of event.

Any other students (UTD, UTA, UNT, SMU, TCU) check on availability on their campus?

No it was most definatly at a bank near UNT, probably 2002 or 2003. I remember because I had to drive so freakin far. I lived in Mesquite at the time.
