D&D 5E Damage question

I'm a little puzzled about saving throws and damage resistance, and how they affect each other or don't.

Here's the example that lead to the question:

A (let's call it a 20 HP fireball) spell goes off, my barbarian PC is in its area of effect. He rolls and succeeds on his saving throw, so he takes half damage (10hp). Since he's bear totem and raging at the time, do I halve that again(5hp)?

In game I just took the 10, but was that correct?

If you have resistance to the damage type any amount of that damage that you take is reduced by half.

A saving throw tied to a damaging effect determines how much damage you take from the effect.

So yes, if you have resistance and pass a save that reduces the damage, both apply. In your example of a 20 damage fireball and a successful save by a resistant target, the end result is taking 5 points of damage.
