Damage Reduction in MotW

As a Class Feature, means you have it AS a class feature at your level. Jeez, why are some people so eager to cheese the game. If you are so eager to make uber-powerful guys, just frickin' cheat!

The whole thing with wands involves the CLASS SPELL LIST. Spells being on Lists is unrelated to Class Features.

So... you are saying that this feat has the unwritten prereq. of having to be an 11th or higher level Barbarian?

Seems a little steep for such a little gain don't ya think???

[edit]...must edit...

DR is a class feature of Barbarians... hense the prereq. is met in this case.

Re: Re: Glad you agree!

Charwoman Gene, let me say this again...

What's the problem with 1st level barbarians potentially running around with a damage reduction of 1/-. That's only 1 point less damage from any type of damage, not a big deal really. Now if the 1st level barbarians are potentially running around with a damage reduction of 10/+1, then there's a problem. But 1 whole point, WOW:eek: with power like that they could...

Wait a sec... it says here that Clerics can use a spell called. K.. k.. cure.. L L lite... woo-ends???? for 1D8 +1/lvl!!!!!!! what the hell?! screw the over powerd 1st level barbarians potentially running around with a damage reduction of 1/-. I'm taken' a GOD LIKE pc, like this cleric thing'a'ma'bob. Here I go with my all powerfull & unbalancing 1st lvl cleric, off to kill Elminster!:D ;)

Mikebr99 I'm in your boat, If the prereq. was 11th lvl they would have put 11th lvl.

The prerequiste is to have DR as a class feature. One way to get that is be an 11th level Barbarian, but there are others. There are many feats that have class features as a prerequite. You must have the class feature. Having the potential to get it applies to all characters, thus not useful.

Please people

The feat description reads as such "Your extraordinary resilence to damage increases"

Last I checked, 0 isn't all that extraordinary.

This is why I asked the question…

Surely if they wanted me to have at least one point of damage reduction before I could /increase/ it, the requirement would read:

“Damage Reduction at least 1/-“

Or maybe even just “Damage Reduction”.

The requirements section says I must have Damage Reduction as a class feature. I picture Divine Spellcasting being a class feature of a cleric, and extra feats being a class feature of the fighter. This suggests And yet the text says '/increase/.

Thinking about it, if I’m playing a 1st level paladin, is spellcasting a class feature? I would argue that it is. I would be able to take a feat which states I must have divine spellcasting as a class feature, but not a feat that required me to be able to cast 3rd level divine spells.

The longer I think about this, the more convinced I am that I’m right. Unfortunately, the use of the word /increase/ is what’s causing me problems. This issue is not on the FAQ or errata lists. And WotC haven’t put an email on their site for me to send them an official query.

Anyone got an email addy?

A 1st level paladin can use wands for spells on his class list. I've ruled that Greater Resiliency can be taken by 1st level Barbarians and Monks (at 20th Monks get 20/+1 DR). It's a nice feat but not that great.

Hey Crothian.

Why do you want to nerf an already underpowered feat?

Can someone write up the feat. Am at work and cannot look at it. I thought, it said something to the point that if you take it increases your current damage resistance.

Greater Resiliency [General]
Your extraordinary resilience to damage increases .
Prerequisite : Damage reduction as a class feature or
innate ability.
Benefit : Your damage reduction increases by +1/-. If
would normally rise thereafter with level, it does so at
its previous rate . For example, a 15th-level barbarian has
damage reduction 2/-. By taking this feat, he raises it to
3/-. Thereafter, it continues to rise by +1/- at the designated
intervals: to 4/- at 17th level, and to 5/- at 20th
level . You may not take this feat more than once.

Ok, from what I can glean from that writeup. And the rules to multiclassing. A person has something as a class feature even before they reach that level. Its a feature of a class.

For example:

A barbarian 1/rogue 1 has uncanny dodge (does not loss dex) because both classes have uncanny dodge as a class feature. They stack in the example. Even though neither class actually has gotten to the level that they would get it listed on their list.

This makes the Damage resistance is a class feature of Barbarian even at 1st level. This means that you qualify for it. And be able to take 1/- at first. It would stay that way until they reached 11th level at which point it would become 2/- as per the write-up.
