Dark Sun art: Disappointed

Too much of it looks like a MMO screenshot to me.

Really? Now, you got me really interested in that MMO. Which one has screenshots looking like that?

The Creature Catalog art is really good! I didn't spot a single outright bad piece either.

I think what tends to disapoint me with a lot of the art these days isn't that it's "bad" just that it tends to showcase a character, with little to nothing going on in the background.

Great for illustrating an example of what a class/race looks like, but bad for getting my imagination going. To pull me really into the piece I think the background makes me feel like the world is really alive around him, and makes me want to fill in the gaps about what that world is like.

I think so far in the book one of my favorite pieces is on page 139. Because it just showcases a city street. It makes me start wondering what that merchant is selling, what stuff sounds like there, what's in that tower back there, etc...
