Dark Sun: I Have Many Questions Mr. Sparkle

Zephrin the Lost

First Post
There's a general haze of Dark Sun excitement in the world these days but my budget won't allow me to pick up the books for a while yet. So I've decided to post my questions here so everyone who has the books can lord over me with their knowledge. ;)

1. Tieflings: what's the deal, how do they fit in?

2. Are the city states racially cosmopolitan? Do halflings and elves wander freely in civilized settings or are they disdained? How about dborns and tieflings?

3. Are there giants on Athas? All kinds or just a few? Where do they live?

4. My first PC will probably be a boomerang throwing bard. So I ask you- are there boomerangs? Do they cost a feat to learn to use as in Eberron? Do they break on a 1?

5. Does the Athian Ministrant theme work with ranged weapons?

6. When does the DDi update with his stuff? :p

Thanks!

1. They kinda don't. They're just there, in Athas, pretty much being tieflings. They're described as a race of raiders that kill all their victims. They made some sort of pact with dark forces in the past (like all tieflings), and some believe that killing others is the only way out of this pact.

2. They're a little bit more cosmopolitan. There are mentions of significant minorities of halflings in some city-states. There's even a snippet about a thri-kreen noble house in one state, if I remember correctly. But in every state, humans are dominant, and halflings and thri-kreen in particular are portrayed as very insular and separate from the rest of the world.

3. Yes. There's a few common types, beast-headed among them. They live in the Sea of Silt region.

4. Chatkcha are like bladed boomerrangs. At least, they return to a proficient user when thrown. They are a military ranged weapon, and therefore do no necessarily require a feat.

5. They worked hard to make all the themes work with every possible class. Some are weapon and some are implement powers, but since the DM is encouraged to use inherent bonuses over enhancement bonuses, this likely shouldn't be an issue for most builds. Athasian Minstrels have weapon powers, though, and all their powers seem to be usable with both melee and ranged weapons.

6. Some time late September I think?
