I voted Hamanu (most badass of the currently existing living sorcerer kigns).

Borys and Nibenay could eat him for breakfast, though, but one's dead (killed in a pathetic way, too), and the other's... undead.

Nibenay comes in second place.

I'm surprised Kalak got so many votes, considering he hardly had any screen time.

maybe its because of Wik's good scary description of kalak! :D

Nibenay!

For all the reasons listed....

"because of his super-coolness, unashamed draconic appearance, magical might, shadowy puppetmastery and the fact that he gets to do the dirty with his vast harems of templar-wives."

and "he was facinating. He was the most advanced of the SKs that weren't full dragons. I was also intrigued by the female templer who he kept close because of her ability to soothe his draconic rage."

He was my kind of villain...or anti-hero (I view most people in Dark Sun as Anti-Heroes....)

Seriously, I'm willing to keep an open mind. Can anyone give an example of a non-deity NPC that can stand up to Borys? In any of TSR's classic settings? I just don't think its possible. :)

Waldorf?

:D

yep, waldorf is the man...

seriously, i think that you have diferent level of powers in diferent worlds.

raistlin almost become a god (well, not so almost, anyway), elminster and lots of mystra stories do their part too...

but the big problem is, when you try to make a character into numbers and rules..then i must agree with you.

we wouldnt know if, lets say, raistlin went to athar, if hes power wouldnt be equivalent to borys.

in DL, alll characters have lower levels, but thats how the world was build.

FR is high magic, IMO, and DS have strong psi powers.

they are all strong in their own worlds, so i dont see how we could compare them, as they are from diferent settings (and diferent "natural rules" about power, magic, gods and so on..)

Kalak is my chioce.

Borys really is not an operating SK in the setting IIRC. He is the coolest NPC/Foe on the setting, but his role was different that the Sorcerer Kings.

What was cool was McFarlane Dragon's had an awesome mini for The Dragon of Tyr back in series 4. You'll have to swap the clear ball for an obsidian orb though...

Unless you count Ur Draxa, as laid out in Valley of Dust and Fire.

Step up this lady then:

Tisan Balshareska (Ninth of Nine, Ruler of the Supreme Council, Arch-Geomancer, Sunderer of Dreams, She Who Turns The Wheel Of Fate). Female Human 20th level wizard/15th level priest (Grombar) and a whole hell of a lot of enchantments (geoglyph tattoos) laid on her. See the Ruined Kingdoms box set for Al-Qadim for details.

The other candidate that I can think of is:

Emperor Vulkaram the Dark from Spelljammer whose tyrannical rule extends across 12 Crystal Spheres (Solar Systems). I believe he is a Maedar Fighter of some ridiculous level and has an orb containing an entire trapped pantheon! See Under The Dark Fist for info on him and his legions of lycanthropic soldiers.

To be fair both would probably lose against Borys, but either would give him a hell of a fight. The one that would likely equal him though in power, and would probably win is:

Dregoth of Guistenal (City by the Silt Sea for Dark Sun), Level 29 Wizard/Level 29 Psionicist Dracolich Great Wyrm dragon. Not a god, but he sure wants to be!

yeah but borys was defiler 20/psioniset 20 dragon /dragon 10 so where looking at 2 e dual class here 30th level char damned ugly not sure any none god had a shot.ac-10 magic resistance 80% 25d12 breath weapon 2d10+15 claws a -3 thaco flight of 45A 40 ft long and 50'000 pounds. pluses all his nifty powers and yes dragons cast 10th level spells on athas so where talking ugly here.
