Daunton's Dead Shadow (DM:Ukingsken, Judge:????)

ooc: Sadly, Grakk can't charge guard 1 this turn, since charging requires that he move at least two squares, and also that he move directly to the nearest square from which he can attack. Since the nearest such square is only 1 away, charge isn't available. Grakk can charge guard 2 if he wants, or can use his standard to move adjacent to g1 and use an AP to attack. (Which certainly would drop g1 and trigger the subsequent charge.)

[sblock=ooc]
I'll spend the AP to get up, then move to attack guard 1, then charge guard 2.

Round 1, continued

Morvannon steps forward, blending into shadow despite the bright lights. His invocation blasts the talkative guard, nearly dropping him in his tracks.

Magnus moves forward as well, magic building between his hands as he cocks an ear to the sound of the approaching hounds, and scans the darkness.

Grakk bounds to his feet and, stepping forward, decapitates the first guard with a mighty swing. The momentum of his blow twists him around, and he allows it to pull him into a charging cut that crunches against the second guard's ribs.

Vixo moves forward as well, trying to hide behind the wall, then springs out and hurls a dagger. The guard isn't fooled, and ducks the flying blade.

Round 2

Kamotz steps up next to Grakk and lands a crunching two-handed swing of his own, driving the breath from the guard's lungs.

Vrrsk't circles behind the unfortunate guard and brings his weapon down. It's too much for the guard, who crumples beneath the blow.

The immediate area is peaceful, but the baying of hounds is sounding closer and closer. None can be seen, yet, but they can't be far away.

[sblock=nature DC 15]You can distinguish at least three different kinds of howls approaching, as well as the shouts of handlers.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Morvannon moves, curses guard 1, and hits for 15 damage.

Magnus moves and readies an action.

Grakk stands, moves up to guard 1, and drops him with an AP. That triggers Swift Charge, which hits guard 2 for 11. Grakk gets 4 temp hp, and enemies get +2 to attacks against him TSNT. Morvannon gets whatever he gets when his curse fires.

Vixo's attempt at stealth fails, and his dagger misses. I'm assuming you moved to H11 with deft strike, since anywhere else and the guard would have had cover against your attack.

NPCing Kamotz and Vrrsk't a bit quicker than I usually would, because it seems pretty obvious what to do. Kamotz moves to J8 and uses Righteous Brand, which crits for 15 damage, and Grakk gets +4 to hit guard 2 tent(kamotz).

Vrrsk't circles to flank the guard with Grakk and attacks with Holy strike: 18 vs. AC hits exactly for 13 damage, dropping guard 2. Vrrsk't has a magic weapon now, doesn't he? His sheet doesn't have that bonus factored in. Something to keep in mind, for whoever else runs him.

Nearby enemies are all dead, and the hounds aren't in sight yet. Everyone is up again. You have this round to make any preparations you see fit.

"What....you....I said *not* to kill them!!!" Morvannon looks around, appalled at the carnage. "Gods, we'd better hope they *were* involved in the attack..." he mutters, eyes wide.

Blood speckling the shifters robes, Kamotz looks at Morvannon, Don't look at me... Kamotz sticks the flail under one arm, and quickly picks over the guard, searching pockets, socks, helmet, etc. The shifter seems to satisfy himself by taking (Key ring? Password? ID?) and then creeps silently across the path.

Kamotz attempts to hide before the reinforcements arrive, blending himself with the shadow of the tree trunk. He appears to have been learning from Vixo, disappearing from sight to all but the most discerning eye.

Grakk snaps back at the warlock "They were in the way and had to be dealt with swifty. I hold no respect for them. We must stop talking about this and prepare for what is yet to come!"

Grakk makes preparations for the next attack.

Kamotz' hurried search finds only common items: a belt knife, a small pouch of assorted small coins, and a brass locket that opens into a picture of a pretty woman holding a small boy.

ooc: Just to clarify: this isn't a short rest, this is a single combat round, part of the same encounter. So Grakk keeps his temp HP, and if you want to spend a surge you need to use an action (e.g. second wind) that would normally allow you to do so in combat. The second guard was dropped by Vrrsk't, and I'm happy to say he was knocked out rather than killed, if you'd prefer. However, dimsdale used the word "decapitate" on guard 1; that's pretty clear. ;) Guard 1, the headless one, was holding the gate key. Guard 2, the possibly-unconscious one, is the one Kamotz searched.

[sblock=OOC]

According to Vrrsk't if the man died from the blow, he deserved to, if the man just went unconcious then that's what happened. (Apoli knows the man's guilt and will judge accordingly.)

I can't make the OOC call on wether that guard deserved to die or not... So whatever happened, happened.
