Dave Arneson and Erol Otus?

I'd be happy to PayPal your copy off of you Erik. PM me if you are interested.

Mhensley or Melkor-

If either of you guys are seriously interested in the module, I am happy to pass it along. I picked it up at GenCon, but as diaglo mentioned, Dave Arneson's schedule made it tough to grab his autograph so I missed it. The module graphics do a great job of emulating the look and feel of a 1st edition module, but honestly, I was not terribly impressed with the module itself. Let me know... my e-mail is in my profile.

Well, I didn't read throught he whole thing yet (we lost power last night as I was about 3/4 through it), but from what I did read, I have to say that I'm not really all that impressed. While it looks and has that 1st edition dungeon crawl feel to it, I didn't feel that there was a whole lot to it.

Thanks for the review! It sounds a lot like many of the old basic D&D modules that I have.

no, it isn't really. it is closer than any other new product, but it is still different.

Well, actually I meant that in a bad way. ;)

Most basic D&D modules had strange storylines and required dm's to fill most of the holes in the plot. But they were fun in a quirky sort of way.

Dave missed the whole Basic D&D era. ;)
He didn't miss Basic completely. He returned briefly to TSR in the late 80's to write his Blackmoor series (DA1-3; there was a DA4 not written by him)

I just found out that Goodman Games produced a special GenCon only module that was written by Dave Arneson and features a cover by Erol Otus. Did anyone here get one? I would love to hear more about it. You can see what I'm babbling about here-

Dungeon Crawl Classics #3.5: The Haunted Lighthouse

Hey Guys,

Some interesting points in this thread. I was a minor contributor to DCC #3.5. All of the DCC modules fit within the constraints of the old style modules. This module also has geomorphs in the back to give you an idea. The whole thing was designed to be a single nighter.

One thing I haven't heard anyone comment on was the notable NPCs that were listed in the module. I am just curious how many of them people were able to identify. One is patheticlly easy, but some of the others were a bit more tricky and funny once you know whodunnit.

If you want to see some real current Arneson stuff you should check out the latest update to Zeitgeist Games. You can see a copy of the map for the upcoming Dave Arneson's Blackmoor. I would be eager to get some feedback on that. You can see that here!
