Dawnforge Characters

Wow; so only Paladins can turn undead? I'm kinda split on this; while it'll be nice to not have to watch an encounter with undead get FUBARed by a good turning check(not that this party would've anyway) that IS gonna take a bit of getting used to.

It should be pretty easy to have one of the special powers of a Disciple dedicated to an immortal of Positive Energy being a turning ability, or perhaps a PrC for a specific subset of said immortal's followers.

This is dead on. Having every cleric be able to turn undead is stupid in my opinion, even though it's one of the most sacred of cows I'm sure. Plus, disciples aren't clerics, remember. They are characters devoted to a specific immortal, who grants them powers. I don't see why all Immortals would grant the ability to turn undead, which I might add aren't as prevalent in Dawnforge as in the core rules.

As a side note, I would definitely increase the challenge rating of undead encountered, as their low CRs are a reflection of how easy it is to dust them with a cleric on board.

Hey Wil really like what I am reading so far, looking forward to starting to play in the setting.

There will be PrC and there are Legendary Classes etc....

but if I do Night Elf Ranger he will be good with bow but have some other tactics up his sleeve (or on his sleeve ;) ).

What are you thinking LW?

Hal,

Right now I'm thinking about a gnome shaman...

Morpheus sent me a few details on the gnomes and I really like how they are portrayed in Dawnforge. I haven't seen the details on the Shaman class, but hopefully that will change in a few short hours.

I'm like you though...I want to play some different and challenging/fun to role-play.

Ah; that is a good idea, I think I might go with that.

If you do not get it tonight and you are close to Brandon you can borrow mine.

I'm out the door after I type this to go pick it up! Woohoo! :D

Thanks for the offer Hal!

I like the idea of making Prestige Classes available, personally, but not having anyone have them; if my Dawn Elf Fighter wants to, he could conceivably become the First Bladesinger.

That is a very Dawnforgey idea...and kinda cool as well.

After looking briefly through the book, your character (if you decided on Dawn Elf instead of Night Elf) could be THE Dawn Archer! :D

Still have quite a bit of reading to do, but I really like what I've seen so far!

That's pretty much the reaction I had to the book; I pick it up and it's the only book that I've skimmed that I went "I. Must. Have it. ImustImustImust!" because somehow with each page I turned it just got cooler and cooler!

I had to order it without having an opportunity to look at it, which I was very leery about doing--didn't want to spend $35 and end up not liking it.

But from all of the posts and feedback here, my initial worry was somewhat alleviated...

And now that I do have it, I'm very glad to say that I was not at all disappointed in the book...a very good purchase and resource! :D
