Dazed and confused...

Catchy title for my post, aye? Anyway... If you Daze an enemy, and someone tries to Disarm them, do they get a chance to oppose? I know they can't make an AoO, but can they oppose the Disarm? What about other attacks, such as an unarmed Trip? Grapple? Sunder? Removing an item from their person?

I would assume "yes", they get a chance to oppose, under the general principle that a spell or power doesn't do more than it explicitly says. A dazed character "defends itself normally", still gets to make saving throws, isn't flat-footed or reduced in Dexterity, etc.

Counter-trip? Counter-disarm?

What do you think?

It's a tricky one... particularly when you step the condition up to 'stunned'.

A stunned creature 'takes no actions', but a counter-disarm isn't defined as an action...

... but then, neither is an AoO.

Probably I'd make a DM's call and so "no" to the counter-trip or disarm, since they look a little too much like an attack action to do the same. That's one worthy of a FAQ item.

I would go with the same ruling. Yes to to reactive and defensive behaviour, no to AoOs.

But it also says that the dazed creature doesn't get to take any actions. Wouldn't a counter-trip attempt be considered an action?

Not strictly, no. It's not a full-round action, standard action, move action, free action, or not-an-action.
