At the moment I'm working under the assumption that Amazon is just slow in getting their copies in stock.

Amazon sent me an e-mail stating they expect to ship it to me around October 26th. I've ordered DCCs from Amazon in the past, so I know they've been able to acquire previous titles in the line. Further, I haven't heard anything about Goodman Games intentionally withholding it for sale from Amazon.

That's certainly better news. Thanks

I'm less concerned about the price of the PDF than about the size. Over at RPGNow, the download for this book is just shy of 400 megabytes. On my poor 56k connection, that's an average of nineteen hours of straight downloading, and that's if the connection stays good the entire time!

Yes, that was a surprise. I'm not sure if it's the maps but at that size it's more than 1 MB per page which is huge. Other products of a similar size in terms of page length don't nearly reach this size. I don't even think RAR was this big. I wonder if they'll attempt to do something about it and reduce the download size.

The large size comes from the maps, which are given in single page pdfs. The maps in the boxed set are huge, so this was the only way to facilitate that.

If you are on dial up, I'd suggest getting the physical boxed set and not the pdf.

A few weeks ago I was really hyped about this coming out, but I've cooled off now that its here. This is the kind of campaign world I'd use if I were playing a D&Dish fantasy-based setting, but I'm not doing that right now with my group.

I've always liked the generic feel of the DCCs, and if I want to play one, I've always had no problem putting them into a setting like Eberron or Greyhawk. There's certainly a coolness factor for the box set, and they've created it like the way I'd want it to be created.

Goodman's approach - some flavor description while keeping large areas of the map blank, is the reason I really enjoy a campaign world like Kara-Tur over a more detailed setting like Rokugan. Give me a big map, some nations and a few power groups, and then let me set everything in motion for my players!

I just may skip this go round and feel secure that if I need it I can always purchase it later as a pdf.

Now that this is coming out, and it looks to be quite good, I just have one wish. I wish they would make a compiled/bundled set of all the DCC modules. Some of them are rather hard to get, or downright unavailable. If they made them available as bundled sets of low, medium, and high level adventure sets, that would be perfect.

I just started purchasing the modules and I really like them. Even if I am not going to use them all, I can mine them for ideas. I don't even care if I get the special convention modules (I think those are the x.5 modules), I just want to get all 34 of the prior modules.

It wasn't.

The only reliable way right now is pdf. Some of the out of print, 3 of them I think, are getting reprinted, but other than that pdf is the only definite way to get the material.

Plus signing up on their subscription service will get you even the future "convention" modules. If you want specials like the 1E module just e-mail Joe telling him to add them to your subscription.

He charges full price plus shipping, so the only "deal" is that you know you will get them. Plus all the specials, right to your door. The only reasons I am doing it is my LGS is 54 miles away and I want the convention modules and probably the specials, including the ones for Castles and Crusades.
