DDI 1/18 Update Delayed

A million times yes to this. It's really such a no-brainer that I've been mystified why they didn't do this 2 years ago. WotC is not a software development company, and they shouldn't try to be. They are, however, traffickers in information, and they're damn good at that. They need to stick to what they do best, and let people who know how to develop software serve up the front end.

/more snark

I'm sure they have office assistants designing the new character builder and not software development professionals.

As has been posted many a time, if you don't like the tone of a thread, don't hop on in.

As has been posted many a time, the people bitching about the people bitching are well, bitching about bitching and adding to the overall entertainment value no?

If somoene knows a thread is going to be about a certain subject and it isn't one you care about save to pop in and make snide comments about, then people shouldn't be surprised when those comments in turn have snide comments made about them.

Perhaps he is just happy to see you? As in "where is smoke there is fire" or "where is snark there is Kushner"?
I have certainly reached the point where i couldn't imagine threads like this without your contribution.

They weren't satisfied with the bugs they fixed. I'm gonna steal this one. They come up with the best excuses.

I'm hoping for a more creative excuse next time though. Something like our boss ran off to the Caymans with all our treasure, and in boycott we took the week off to volunteer at the star trek convention.

Well at least subscribers will be able to get access to the content from Heroes of Sword and Spell in 2013.

"We're trying to deliver our products to our consumers in the manner which best matches their use of them. And we've found out that consumers don't use our products, so we're going to stop releasing them. Thank you for your subscription! Up sometime later this year: a haiku about Drizzt's scimitars."

More likely their fixes broke more things they couldn't ignore until next time. That happens a lot when the coders are not reviewing their work before it goes in, or when the code is poorly understood or overly complex.

Your guess is as good as mine, perhaps better. ;)

It's a pretty usual procedure in software QA, though: someone opens a bug, a software developer fixes it, and a tester decides whether this bug can be closed or has to be re-opened. Your process description gives you a quota of re-opened bugs to be tolerated. If you exceed this quota, the Lead Test Engineer won't sign the release off.

The only thing I learn from this message is that there's indeed some QA involved in their process, and I'm glad there is.

I was up late last night playing an RPG so how about you guys do me a favor this morning and quit taking pot shots at each other so I don't have to do any more work?

I agree. I mean why aren't people happy with this free beta testing they're being allowed to do? Oh wait, they're paying for this? Oh...

Do you have a DDI subscription, Joe? Have you been dissatisfied with the current level of service? Have you requested a refund for the months in which you feel they have forced their customers to engage in 'beta testing'? If not, you may want to pursue one - WotC has been pretty forthcoming with providing them to those who are dissatisfied.

All I know is that the online CB has issues, but does get the job done. During the months that it didn't, WotC provided me with refunds when I requested them.

Yes, they've botched a lot of things with the release and the program itself. But they haven't really forced anyone to pay to beta-test stuff - if you genuinely don't feel like the service has been acceptable, you can get a refund or cancel your subscription entirely.
