DDI Updates in December

Now that they're going to be fixing all the stuff we were so mad about on Monday, what are we going to be mad about this weekend?

To everyone asking for more than 20 characters, there is nothing else they have to prevent you from handing out your password to your entire game group than limiting the number of characters.

I have no tolerance for piracy-reduction measures that inconvenience paying customers. Never have.

(And when taken to the extreme, you get silly things like pirates getting *better* convenience than paying customers, like how pirates don't have to sit through mandatory anti-pirating ads at the beginning of a DVD.)

Not mad at all - just patiently but eagerly waiting for house rules to be added to the CB before I subscribe. All my games' use house rules so it's sort of a must. When I can use it for my characters, I'll be excited to subscribe. I assume it'll come within the next couple updates.

  • MV monsters lvl 1-10 not perfect, but accepatable now that the online Monster Builder is at least usable.

  • Not to nitpick, but the online MB is not yet available. They hope to release it this month sometime, but explicitly stated that some things may slip. Let's hope the MB isn't one of them- a good MB could tilt me back towards re-subbing in February.

While I understand your point, saying that they are "fixing all the stuff" is a bit of an exaggeration. We still have:
    • A broken Monster Builder
    • A broken online Character Builder
    • A CB Classic that no longer has all the options, which is the whole point of the CB
    • Meager content in Dungeon
    • Meager content in Dragon dominated by preview material- basically ads

So there's plenty to be outraged about if someone is looking for cause. I myself prefer to see this as a hopeful sign- I suspect they originally planned to roll the new MB out as-is, like they did the CB, but the response convinced them not to.

IF the online MB proves at least as usable as the current version in its post-MM3 state, I will be somewhat mollified- that's my biggest bitch about the whole thing, is the breaking of a good tool and then discarding it without fixing it or without a timeline for replacement. Now at least there's a clue.

No mention of increasing the storage limit for characters in CB. It's one of the things that I hate the most about the new version and I really hope that it goes away soon.

If they implement an export to xml then why would it matter? Just export out the ones you don't immediately need and import them back in when you need them.

I have a lot of complaints about the online builder, but if they implement a nice xml import/export feature for PCs, then this will cease to be one of them. Importing the xml of a PC you have exported to your PC (no pun intended) is identical functionality to loading a PC from the .dnd4e xml in the classic builder. And in fact, being able to store 20 PCs online now becomes a nice feature rather than an annoying limitation.

Because none of what they will release on Monday will work properly. And it still doesn't address...

The Jester is right, again.

To put it crudely: DDi sucks. A half-finished VTT beta and the broken tools and/or updates that are coming out next week still don't replace someone senior within WotC using something like the Ampersand column to say that the complaints have been heard, it's not simple nerdrage, and this is what we plan to do about it.

Of course even if Ampersand is used to display this sort of leadership, the real leadership of WotC is likely to retrench a number of the responsible staff just in time for Christmas and so we will then see an updated article telling us that everything has been put back a few weeks/months/years because there are not enough bums-on-seats to do everything.

I realise that my post is cynical... but I suspect it will prove to be accurate.

(Right now I just want a Monster Builder I can use to build custom monsters. Yeah, like the one before the MMIII update. I don't care about new content for it. I just want it to work. Please. Pretty please.)

We get export feature this month... which is nearly the same as save it on your hard disk, like it was before...

it is not as convenient as storing everything in the cloud, but at least we can store everything on the home computer and 20 characters in the cloud...

But my poor hard disk! All that space for all my characters!

:p
