I had subscribed to Dragon for a few years and to Dungeon for the Savage Tide adventure path when the magazines were cancelled, and I'm interested in D&D Insider.

It's really hard to judge D&D Insider right now. For me, it will probably rise or fall based on how important I deem access to the virtual game table.

That said, I'm inclined to get it if it's good. So I chose the first option, since I was once a fairly regular subscriber (and occasional contributor) to Dragon and Dungeon.

I dropped my Dragon subscription back in the late 80s, but I picked up Dungeon about 3-4 years ago. I'll do DDI because I think the online version of Dungeon is just as good - if not better - than the print version.

Can't really speak to Dragon one way or the other.

W.P.

Tough call right now as I'm leaning against moving to 4E.

If I do, I could see myself doing it. Frankly, Dungeon and Dragon magazines stopped at the right time for me because I'm out of bookshelf space for it. I literally have two full shelves in a large book case devoted to articles that I usually read once and then forget about. Dungeon adventures can be easily printed out, but I fail to see the point in doing the same for Dragon unless it's a very useful article. Having less important periodicals archived in PDF format is great because it saves me space. I also like the format of issue 360 (if only they could get the sidebar to alternate pages like it's supposed to in printed format, I'd be very happy). Also, as someone who has the full version of Acrobat, I can chop up the PDF documents and recombine them so I can make my own personal, not to be shared, "Best of" compilations.

I also see value in the electronic game table and would be likely to take advantage of it.

So right now a lot for me comes down to whether or not I think 4E is a dud. I'm very much on the fence right now. There's a lot I've read that I don't like, but there are a few things that sounds somewhat promising. I guess what will really do it for me is to see what changes they make to the combat system, since that's where so much of the streamlining of the system is really needed.

Depends on a few factors.

DDI Dragon is pretty bad thus far.

DDI Dungeon is pretty good thus far.

The whole use of the internet and using it for something other than putting of PDF files exactly like paper ones, hasn't been explored beyond the entertaining 4e previews.

And of course pricing.

I was a subscriber to dragon for at least 2 or 3 years and was subscribed to Dungeon for about 1½.

I'd like to be a DDI subscriber, just for the mags, but if the cost is ove $15, I'm gonna have to let it go.

Being a relative newbie to the world of D&D, I never really got into the print versions of the magazines. Even if I had been playing for years though, I doubt I would have, as I've never been one for magazines anyway. They take up too much space, can be easily damaged, destroyed or lost. Remembering which particular issue had that one cool feat would be an issue too (I still have that problem with splatbooks now and then).

Translate all that into an electronic form though? One where I can copy/paste or bookmark the best parts? One that's searchable? Stored offsite, so all I need is an internet connection to retrieve what I'm looking for? Heck yes, I'm all over that. The digital tools are gravy, assuming they work right. :)

I regularly bought/subscribed to both magazines (I own every issue of both) but have not yet decided on DDI. It is too early to judge the quality (I hope), and we don't know yet the price and what is actually included. But based solely on what we have to go on right now (current quality, probably about $10, and just the 2 mags) I would not subscribe. However, I do expect the quality to improve, and then there is the character generator, plus other hinted at but as yet unspecified extras. So my answer could change.
