D&D 5E Death in the cornfields

Wow!

Heh... trigger happy PCs!

I'd have him not return next session. Let him return when they least expect it!

Cheers!

I really want this to be a serious fight for the group and a deadly encounter. I have a week to think over -----' strategy and want to play him smart. In a stand up fight the party will simply surround him and waste him in short order!

I don't know -----'s exact stats, but hit-and-run tactics (especially at night) are likely to pay off. You can alternate between attacks and hiding in the dark (to heal, and to make PC spells wear off). If you can use a missile weapon like a crossbow that's even better.

Remember that anyone can hide, not just Rogues, if you can get beyond dark vision range or get behind concealment.

Try your best to catch one PC alone and drag him away from the party. If they start shooting back at you with missile weapons, dropping prone can be a good idea (depending on where the melee guys are). If you can douse any torches or snatch them away, you may have the advantage against PCs who have no darkvision. Don't be afraid to take an opportunity attack or two, since you heal anyway.

Strafe and repeat.

Thanks, good suggestions, still thinking it over.

Elias is not going to simply sit there and wait to get clobbered, and even with hit & run it's still 5 against one.

Other ideas so far:

- Elias takes burlap, corn husks etc from barn and uses them to set fire to the house, driving PCs outside to fight. Uses his parents as weakest targets to feed & regain HP
- You-know-who feels like its not a fair fight and sends some help in the form of some mook zombies, or even a hell hound . . .
- The sun can break through the clouds, driving Elias into the barn for cover. Maybe there is a trap door there that leads to nasty culty type place to explore! I didn't use Death House but liked the basement part . . .

Anyway, fun adventure and worth $1.27 Canadian!! ;)
