First Post
So the other day I was reading through a game book (Ars Magica I think) and in the very begining (you know, where they tell you that you are not your character, and that your wizard's Charm Person spell won't work in real life) they said "d6 - pronounced dee 6."

Now, I've always said dee-6, dee-12, dee-17 etc., but about half the people I game with say die-6, die-10, and die-youcrappyDM! (but that's something different).

So what do you say, but more importantly, why?

I say dee because that's the letter in front of the number...

Dee! it's DEEEE!!! AAAAGGGHHH!!!!

Sorry...this is a peeve of mine... like pronouncing "drow" as "dro". It rhymes with cow... this from a sage advice column years and years back.

I say dee as in the letter. That's what's there, after all.

Pronouncing drow as cow is a pet peeve of mine, because it sounds monumentally stupid. Another one is pointing to some lame "official" pronunciation source. Usually the same one that says bullette is pronounced boo LAY.

Boneheaded WotC/TSR.

Dee twenty. Dee twelve. It reads that way and flows better that way, in my opinion.

However, I can see why people would say "die six" or whatever. The d in d12 could reasonably be seen as the m in 3 m that would be spoken as "3 meters."

Except that d6 is short hand for "six sided die" not "die six."

But, like someone said, I'm certainly not going to get all up in arms over the usage.

Like I do about drow. ;)
