Defeating a Red Dragon

People are forgetting the most important piece of magical equipment for the PC- ring of freedom of movement. Without this a single snatch attack will end the combat with the PC as dragon chow. You'll never break the grapple and simply get eaten. The rest, of course, has been mentioned.

+5 Dragon Bane Ballistae and a whole lot of Big Honkin Crossbow Bolts of Dragon Slaying.

 

[Dark Dragon]

Take an elven ranger/deepwood sniper with dragons as favored enemies. Take archer feats, of course. Buff him with haste, true strike, prayer, and very important: hunter's mercy. Give him a +5 icy burst and acid burst oathbow.

I was basically looking for the loot that would be a dragon slayer's dream come true, and you guys nailed it a lot better than I could by myself.
Never even thought of the spiked armor and Freedom of Movement ring.

In case you were curious, the class is straight fighter, roughly equivilant in CR to the dragon.

at the end of the Key of Destiny, the Age of Mortals Dragonlance module vol 1... there stats listed for Huma's Dragonlance. which in my opinion is the mightiest dragon slaying weapon of all time. it is a monster.
