Deflect Arrows

I'll be going with the ref 20 + enhancements bonus.
Thanks everyone.

There's a very good reason they changed the feat in 3.5.

In 3e, the feat had a DC 20 reflex save, which was ridiculously hard for a low-level PC to be able to deflect. (75% chance of failing, for the first five or six levels.) By the time they could reliably make the save, the archers were firing three or four shots at them- and since they could still only deflect one, so it wasn't such a big deal. Thus, the feat was useless.

In other words, setting it as a DC instead of an automatic deflect will only make the feat worthless. True, they can deflect ONE arrow a round (assuming they have a free hand, and are aware of the attacker, which happens less than you'd think), but by the time the archers really know what they're doing (6th level or so), they'll be firing SEVERAL arrows EACH. That ONE arrow deflected won't be all that great. And don't even bother bringing epic rules into this- not only was the Epic Level Handbook never fully updated to 3.5, but there are FAR worse things at Epic Levels than deflecting every arrow or crossbow bolt.

Again, only Monks take this feat, and when did people start wanting to tone down monks?

To be precise, it was a ranged attack.

But he was weilding his sword two handed and therefore didn't qualify to use the deflect arrows feat. :D

Interesting thread to find. Considering I just watched a documentary on traditional samurai katanas last night. In it one of the current masters in Japan had his daughter shoot arrows at him from a bow and he was slicing them out of the air. I learned some neat stuff about how they're made too.

Exactly. Deflect Arrows requiring an open hand is therefore needlessly restrictive.
