As things currently stand, there are the 12 paladin classes from the PHB & Dragon Magazine (310 & 312) & the (un)holy warrior classes from Green Ronin’s Book of the Righteous to use as knights for a deity.

I this have a beef with the 12 alignment-based generic paladins that can be used for any deity as being the keystone for a deity’s knightly orders. Personally I think the holy warrior works much better. Unfortunately, they are currently based off the less balanced 3e paladin, so I’ve been working on converting them over the more balanced 3.5e versions. (Main difference being that the starting abilities are a spread over 3 levels instead of 2.)

Has anyone toyed with creating holy warriors for any of the Realmsian deities? I also wanted to get some feedback on a few I’d worked on for my upcoming Daggerford campaign.

I don’t have any names for the classes as of yet. All of these are base classes. The only requirement they all share, is that they have to be the same alignment as their Deity. Other requirements will be noted. All of these classes have a few powers in common as well just as the 12 paladin classes.

1st level: Aura of Alignment, Smite Foe, & Detect Foe
2nd level: Divine Grace & Deific Power
3rd level: Aura of Courage or Fear & Deific Power
4th level: Turn or Rebuke Foe
5th level: Companion or Mount
6th, 7th, or 8th level: Divine Spell

The deific powers all vary from class to class.

Spells gained at 6th level should be 3rd level or weaker 4th level spells & progress as follows:
6th – 1/week
9th – 2/week
12th – 3/week
15th – 4/week
18th – 5/week

Spells gained at 7th level should be 4th level spells & progress as follows:
7th – 1/week
11th – 2/week
15th – 3/week
19th - 4/week

Spells gained at 8th level should be stronger 4th level or weaker 5th level spells & progress as follows:
8th – 1/week
12th – 2/week
16th – 3/week
20th - 4/week

Auril – Additional Requirement – Sex: Female; For their smite, I was thinking either men, good, or fire subtype.

1st level: Aura of Evil, Smite ?, & Detect ?
2nd level: Divine Grace & Cold Resistance (2 per class level)
3rd level: Aura of Courage & ?
4th level: Rebuke Ice or Water subtype
5th level: Ice Companion
6th level: Ice Storm

Chauntea

1st level: Aura of Good, Smite Evil, & Detect Evil
2nd level: Divine Grace & Divine Inspiration (BotR – 2 bonus class skills, 4 skill points for them, & can apply charisma bonus to them)
3rd level: Aura of Courage & Creation’s Guardian (BotR – think dwarven defender’s stance, but can defend farm communities & the like)
4th level: Rebuke Plants
5th level: Plant Companion
8th level: Animate Plants

Kelemvor

1st level: Aura of Law, Smite Undead, & Detect Undead
2nd level: Divine Grace & Kelemvor’s Fortitude (+2 sacred bonus to all saves vs. undead)
3rd level: Aura of Courage & Abundant Life (BotR – number of positive energy levels equal to charisma bonus that absorb level drain attacks)
4th level: Turn Undead
5th level: Axiomatic Companion
8th level: Disrupting Weapon

Lathander – Smite, shadow subtype would work too, but are there enough shadow type creatures out there to make it worth it?

1st level: Aura of Good, Smite Undead, & Detect Undead
2nd level: Divine Grace & Lay on hands
3rd level: Aura of Courage & Temple of Flesh (BotR – Grants various immunities as class level increases)
4th level: Turn Undead
5th level: Celestial Mount
6th level: Searing Light

Sune

1st level: Aura of Good, Smite Evil, & Detect Evil
2nd level: Divine Grace & Beauty Domain Power (BotR – 1/day enhancement bonus to charisma equal to class level)
3rd level: Aura of Courage & Aura of Hope (BotR - +1 moral bonus to save & attacks for allies w/I 10’)
4th level: Turn ?
5th level: Celestial Mount
8th level: Mass Suggestion

Tempus – Smite Enemy only affects someone at war with the knight. It must be a formal declaration.

1st level: Aura of Chaos, Smite Enemy, & Detect Enemy
2nd level: Divine Grace & Feat of Strength (BotR – 1/day enhancement bonus to strength equal to class level + charisma bonus)
3rd level: Aura of Courage & Aura of Fear
4th level: Turn ? (I’m thinking enemy soldiers in some way)
5th level: Anarchic Mount
7th level: Divine Power

Tymora

1st level: Aura of Chaos, Smite Law, & Detect Law
2nd level: Divine Grace & Slippery Mind
3rd level: Aura of Courage & Luck Domain Power
4th level: Turn Law
5th level: Anarchic Companion
6th level: Break Enchantment

Tyr – Two 2nd level powers, as I don’t feel that Gaze of Justice is worth much as it is & as Bind Oath isn’t super powerful, I thought they needed a bit more.

1st level: Aura of Good, Smite Evil, & Detect Evil
2nd level: Divine Grace & Gaze of Justice/Shield of Righteousness (BotR – +1 bonus to sense motive & intimidate; +4 bonus to AC & saves with a known criminal)
3rd level: Aura of Courage & Temple of Flesh (BotR – Grants various immunities as class level increases)
4th level: Turn Chaos
5th level: Celestial Mount
6th level: Bind Oath (BotR – creates binding oath from a volunteer. If they break it, they are cursed)
