Deity Headache

It only states a cleric's alignment must be within one step of his deity, not a Paladin. I would clarify this with your DM. This would make things easier.

Haela Brightaxe is CG, if that's an issue.

Excellent, I wasn't sure if pallys had to be within one step too or not. Hmmm now to figure out how to write up my background so that my human pally is somehow a follower of a Dwarven fighter god...

Thanks for all the replies guys. Still can't believe there isnt one canon deity thats LG, has war domain and a greatsword for his weapon though - cuz there are a ton of deities...

If you're considering CG and want to play it a little Simpler, a Paladin of Kord could have excellent RP flavor, and be a solid Character.

As a Kord Paladin, you emphesize on training communities of young men (and women, no need to discriminate) on the basics of combat. Hold combatative events, wrestling matches, teach the people to celibrate the purity of combat as a sport, as well as self defense, and as community building. Every village you pass through is a place to educate to make the locals more secure.

You look forward to combat wherever you find it, but you are not foolish enough to rush headlong without planning. You value your allies greatly, value teamwork, and still desire to shine amung them all as an excellent Warrior. It's a great way to play a not Lawful-stupid Paladin. Even allows you to kick back and the end of the day, enjoy an ale, and laugh once in a while.

hehe lawful-stupid. Surprised how often I see that in reference to Paladins. I don't think I'll have any trouble with the RP aspect of the Paladins code. Not lying or cheating is easy enough. Not using poisons will be harder as my Ranger character loves his poisons and I've gotten use to them.

I actually looked at Kord - as his favored weapon is a greatsword. The problem with him though is he doesn't offer the War domain (surprisingly actually considering the fluff even says he's the god of storms and battle). I'm looking for a Deity that has War domain/Greatsword that a Paladin could reasonably follow.

...I can only find Haela Brightaxe as a CG/war/greatsword deity...

but Tyr, Red Knight, Heironeous, Dol Dorn, Altua are all good aligned Deities, with access to War domain, but longsword as favored weapon... do we really need 5 of em!

I'm almost to the point of just making a war domain cleric like one guy said but, I was looking forward to trying out Pathfinder's Paladin, looks a lot better than standard 3.5's...

These are the closest. There are some LE / War / Greatsword, but LE is just not compatible.

Heironeous LG War Longsword
Mayaheine LG War Bastard Sword
Tyr LG War Longsword
Hemdall LG War Longsword
Haela Brightaxe CG War Greatsword
Arvoreen LG War Shortsword
Aengrist LG War Bastard Sword
Altua LG War Longsword
Torm LG Greatsword, but no War domain

If I were DM, I would probably say bastard sword / greatsword = close enough.

What? Kord doesn't have the War Domain? Crap, I usually check my books before claiming something, but I just assumed because it made sense. Sorry about that, but glad to hear you've got good alternatives!

Red Knight is lawful Neutral

Kord:
Chaos, Chastity,
Competition, Good, Luck,
Strength, Wrath, Zeal
