Deity Rankings...

Thinking about Saints in another thread made me think about Quasi-Deities from the old Greyhawk boxed set like Keelean, the Prince of Swords.

So what are the gods up to now?

Greater Deity
Intermidiate Deity
Lesser Deity
Demi-God
Quasi-Deity (?) Is this still around?
Immortal (3rd party sources like Mongoose right?)
Saint

Anyone have good sources on this? It's been a while since I broke open the Deities & Demigods book.

Some sources (such as FR) add in Overpower at the top of the heap. Also, I thought Greyhawk also had Hero Dieties, either just above or below Quasi-Dieties (probably below).

Yeah, the dreaded overpower AO... Ugh...

And I thought that the Hero Deities were the Quasi-Deities? Man, I'm going to have to break out the old books now...

the Quasi-deities were in Dragon Magazine first... iirc 71 or so had some.

Planescape placed Overpowers a bit to the side in the hierarchy. They were more powerful than greater gods, but their power was limited to their own crystal sphere.

Deity level is based on divine rank.

Quasi-Deity has a divine rank of 0 (as opposed to no divine ranking)
Demi-god has divine rank 1-5
Lesser God has divine rank 6-10
Intermediate God has a rank of 11-15
Greater God has a divine rank of 16-20
Overdeity has a divine rank in excess of 20

Overdeities do not need worshippers and have powers far beyond the ken of normal gods.
Overdeities are to gods as Epic level characters are to regular player characters with levels of 20 or less.

According to 3E Deities and Demigods, this is also the rank of Hero Deities. The book says that Quasi-/Hero Deities are two different terms for the same thing.

However, the Greyhawk setting, most recently in Living Greyhawk Journal no. 3, has still maintained that Quasideities and Hero Deities are separate divine levels; Quasideities, to hear GH say it, are mortals who've begun to get a bit of divine power, but Hero Deities have more divine power, as well as the ability to grant spells, something Quasideities can't do (D&Dg says that, since both are rank 0 deities, they can't grant spells).

Overdeity has a divine rank in excess of 20

Crystal spheres...yay!

Overdeities are to gods as Epic level characters are to regular player characters with levels of 20 or less.

D&Dg doesn't say this, so I'm uncertain that it's correct, though it does seem, on the surface, to be true enough.
