Delayed blast fireball and gloves of storing.

Have your lich use energy substitution sonic. A delayed sonic boom would work well... :) How long does the energy immunity last? You could just hope the spell wears off before they "open" the gloves.

If you decide to rule that the undefined term "stasis" includes spell durations, then you deserve all of the problems that you are unleashing upon yourself.

My players are mature enough not to cheese the rules. We all understand that they're there for balance, they aren't straight-jackets on how to play. Not letting someone store some fireseeds because someone else might try to get unlimited use out of his sword is not something I want to do. It's up to them to not be munchy, if they become munchy it ruins their fun as much as my own so they don't do it.

Xan'Tyr,

As I mentioned before, I believe most people house rule it to not affect spells. However, there does not seem to be a reason for a stasis effect that keeps a burning torch from going out or consuming its fuel to act differently on a torch with a light effect on it. I see the spell as part of the item similar to a nail that is nailed into a wall is considered part of that wall.

You could rule that anything added to an item is not part of the item and therefore not affected by the stasis and remain consistent in excluding spell effects, the gloves then become a great way to clean things with stains.:) I just think that is not the most natural reading of "item"

The gloves shrink magical items so they work on magic, the only reason to not allow stasis to affect spells is for game balance.

I see no problem in labeling the gloves as overpowered as written, (probably unintentionally on the author's part) and changing them to exclude spells.

There are two ways to look at this:

1- My players don't abuse it so it doesn't matter.
2- What should the general rule be to keep this from being abused outside of the Utopia that is our own game...

I think 1 is great, but since this is a message board for the whole world 2 certainly has to be considered. Which leads to 2 possible decisions.

1- House rule it so that the "statis" does not affect spell durations.
2- Or rule that it does and increase price by at least 10x.

The current cost is no where near balanced with ruling that the statis affects spell duration, even if there's nothing in the rules which prohibits it.

Energy Immunity is 24 hour duration (or longer with extend spell). The Necromancer does't have energy substituion, but if she gets to kill and loot another party member, she'll definitely think about getting a rod of substitution with the proceeds. :)

NPC's hunting down and killing PC's? That's a change! How do you manage it? Don't they get upset?

As far as my "Utopia" goes, that's not entirely accurate. But it's closer then some horror stories I've read about.

Instead of option 1 or 2 I'd say that being in the glove slows down the magic, but dosen't stop it. Or maybe when it's released from the glove the magic is more unpredictable. You never know when it's going to fail.... There are other options I'm sure.

As for me? I'm going to allow the delayed fireball storage - it gives me a really good excuse to blow the arm or leg off the barbarian right before the cleric levels up and can cast regeneration on him to grow back the charred/burnt/missing limb.

Technically, I would say it's possible. Just remember that there is a 25% chance of triggering the delayed blast fireball in your hand if you pull it out of the glove and try to throw it...
