Delayed Fireball

Also note that regular or lesser metamagic rods (empower, maximize, etc.) will not work with delayed blast fireballs. The cost considerations of greater metamagic rods is significant.

FWIW:

Our Sor always found better things to do with his 7th level spells known. Delayed Blast Fireball never got on the list. Check out the Spell Compendium!

Delayed Blast Fireball and Time Stop go together like peanut butter and jelly. Mix with the Energy Substitution High Arcana for flavor.
I see this mentioned often... but did they change the rules in 3.5 from 3.0 where spells with random durations have their duratiuons rolled by the DM so the PCs can't know how long they'll last?

A Greater rod of maximization will ensure that you to know exactly how long a timestop will last.

I've never seen anything written to that effect.

Frankly were that the case, that'd be kinda BS. Why should you not know what's going on with your own spells?

For one thing it makes time stop much less broken....

To be completely honest, I have never seen a typical use of DBF other than using it in conjunction with time stop to get several to detonate at once (and even that is only necessary in 3e, not AD&D where you could attack during time stop). What is it that is so nifty about the delayed blast effect? How have you used it to good effect?
