So, they posted a lot of the encounter maps on the site, but still did not convert them to 1"=5' scale (in terms of upping the actual size of the maps). Why do you suppose that is? Why don't we get the maps on line in a more usable format?

My guess is paying customers on their electronic initiative will get maps in the appropriate scale. I wouldn't be surprised if the definition will be better by then too.

I have a bad feeling that they will charge for useful maps among their digital initiative offerings. This really sucks, but there are some noble souls that are having the trouble to convert some maps from previous adventures, such Red Hand of Doom and Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. Perhaps they can be convinced to work on these too. Look at the adventures section at Wizards boards.

This would be great, in my opinion. I'd gladly pay for access to miniature scale maps.

Because most people simply print the maps out on an ordinary 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. Most encounter maps, if scaled properly to 1" = 5' will not entirely fit on that sheet of paper (which equates to only an area of 42.5 ft. by 55 ft., in minatures terms).

Many of the encounter maps available on the WotC website would require a half dozen or more sheets of standard paper to print them out, if you were using miniatures scale.

You can do it yourself though...

Oh yeah isn't that the truth... I tired of blowing up maps and staring at blurry images, and editing out monster references..and secret doors...

Come on Wotc... high res, clean images and yes I'll pay

Use Word to resize them to the scale you need. I do it all the time. Save it as an image, insert the image, double click, then resize the image. Pretty simple. It might take a couple pages but you CAN do it. You might want to edit it a bit in photoshop.

I won't pay for the maps if it is going to increase costs on the material, not in a hobby that is getting increasingly more expensive every year. I love D&D and want to buy more books but the cost is getting to be too much for me to justify. I've had to find various discount programs (I have enough bookstore discount cards to build a plasticard house out of) to support my hobby and I'd rather support my FLGS, especially considering I work there...
