Demonweb maps - now featuring Scott Rouse question

I hear ya loud and clear.

One thing I mentioned in our thursfday morning discussion at D&D Experience was my desire to do more maps. Fantastic Locations are a decent attemp but only seem to appeal to skirmish players. You can use them for RPing but it seems most people don't want to use them. The tiels are more flexible.

I have been trying to bust the map nut but haven't cracked it yet. For the cost od art and printing they just don't sell enough to make it worth the effort but they would be so nice to be able to make for you guys. We have a few ideas and will keep at it.

Even for something the quality of the Map Folios? I like the tiles, but the paper Map Folios are printed on would certainly be cheaper.

It's been a while since I looked at those but I recall they were not 1" grid. I assume that you would want 1" grid scale maps on that material.

As I said we are working on some ideas to get out more maps.

Also how much would you be willing to pay for a pack of 6 double sided 27" X 36" poster maps (like in Fantastic Locations)?

No, they don't have 1" grids on them, but if they were folded maps of the same quality paper, you could put 1" grids on them.

I'd say... $10-$15 as a guess.

Depends. If it were with an adventure like Demonweb pits, I'd pay about 40. I wouldn't care about the quality of the paper cause I can get them laminated pretty cheaply. If it were just the maps, I think 25-30 dollars would be good.

Six double-sided maps? That's a lot more maps than we've gotten in the past. Maybe twice a year?

Probably $25.

Unless each pack has non-skirmish maps. Then more like $15 to $20 (depending upon the numebr of skirmish maps).

If you're including re-runs of older maps, then probably $15 to $20.

I assume we're talking maybe 2 epic maps per set?

Hey Scott, just wondering how feasible it would be to pack modules with a dungeon tiles set for the major encounters. They'd be reusable, which IMHO is one of the problems w/ the Fantastic Locations maps, A DM could add them to his Dungeon Tiles, or use them for his own adventures, even if he didn't use the official adventure whole cloth, and you wouldn't have to do rooms that already have an appropriate tile in one of the sets, just list it in the text. I think with a $12-$15 price point for the modules and an increase of $7 to $10 dollars to include the tiles you'd appeal to more people as far as adventures and the price would be between $19 and $25, still reasonable considering black and white modules are starting to hit the $20 range anyway, especially if it uped the number sold...so what do you think?

Sorry to ask a question that made this a "featuring Scott Rouse" thread. I think everyone's just excited you're posting in different threads. :)

To turn the question around: I currently use Dungeon Tiles to "fit together" maps in adventures. How much would gridded paper maps force up the price of the adventures? And of the Expedition books? As a side-question, how about DDM-packs designed for use with specific adventures/Expeditions?

$40 for squares.

$60 for offset squares.

I'd pay a good fraction of that ($20-$30) for pdfs if the pdfs were designed so that when printed you could fit them all together. I'd also pay that for a map without any grid but with some transparency on it. The reason, I've taken to prinitng out backgrounds, etc. onto "window cling" transparencies then just sticking these to the battlegrid. It's easier to change locations than drawing or rolling out a new map (which requires the movement of chips, drinks, etc. :)).

If it is electronic, I'd imagine you could have the base art then just select the grid you would like to overlay.

I'd even subscribe to a map-a-week service where you'd get a certain number of maps, maybe a basic location (or a small set based on a theme) such as forest, forest road, maybe a nifty building, a dungeon "piece" and from time to time a special location. All this even though I don't use a 3.e rule set.
