Derogatory term for cohort

If you're addressing them in person, as opposed to just refering to them, then there's always some nice dehumanizing options.

"boy" - "You, boy, fetch me my shield"

or the always popular name that is not theirs, perhaps even not the right gender. Insist on calling all of your male cohorts 'Nancy' for example.

According to David Weber's novel 1643, servants in the time period were often referred to as "It" and often in the third person, without looking at the servant.

"It will fetch me my shield."

"It will draw my bath"

Can't get much more insulting than that. :)

The american time-travellers were seen as marvellous people because they always talked to people in subservient positions in the first person. :)

... and in English! ;)

Hope I'm not the only one reminded of this dialog: "It rubs the lotion into its skin, or it gets the hose!"

Cheers, -- N

EDIT: And it's written by David Flint.

So using this.

Are we getting a little too much into the servant or squire role when we are talking about cohorts? Are your cohorts treated like slaves, hirelings, students, peers?

I think I might treat my cohorts better than most of the people on here...Is that possible?

depends on my character/npc. For the characters/npcs I care about usually get cohorts that I care about. N/PCs that I view as one shots usually get one shot cohorts.

my favorite cohorts are my pc cohorts and they run the gambit from consorts to slaves.

"It puts the lotion in the basket, or else it gets the hose again."
