Well... Actually some poisons could quicken the deterioration of muscle and bone, which could work on undead.
I stab you once and then laugh as necrotizing fasciitis takes hold and your body wastes away to nothing in a matter of hours! Mwa haa ha ha ha ha!

This message brought to you by the Board for Randomized Surgery.

I know they're trying to reduce blanket immunities in 4E, but I'll be really amazed if undead are not still immune to poison and disease. (Chemicals that inflict structural damage rather than disrupting biological processes are better classed under "acid" IMO. Even if they aren't actually acid.)

I disagree.

I mean, all you'd have to do is state that all diseases and poisons work on the animus, and this is reflected in changes to the body, rather than affecting the body, and working changes on the animus.

Same for sneak attacks, etc. Major disruption to the physical form results in fluxes and degradation of the animus.

If you view the biological framework of a body as supporting and powering the animus, then this makes a lot of sense.

The normal process of biological empowerment is subverted by the shadow-energy of undeath, but this still allows the animus power to operate, and may, in fact, work better.

The animalistic traits, as discusses in Worlds + Monsters, are derived from the lack of a soul.

May I ask why Charisma? I can't see how force of character (through various means) would mean the same as Con.
Charisma = Soul/Spirit to some folks. Thus thats the only thing keeping the undead going.

That's a disease, not a poison

Well... *shifty eyes* When all else fails... MAGICAL POISON! brewed from the life-sucking plants of the Shadowfell :P Ahh... Fantasy always a way :P

Heh. That's a good idea. I've already introduced Crimson Madder into my game.

So, does that mean I can poison or sicken an undead, even though said non-magical poison or virus would just be attacking dead tissues and/or organs of an undead?

I hope not... that means an undead is really not much different from a living creature :\

Undead got to have something special, and rules should impose some difference, not just different fluff. So do Elementals, Golems, Dragons and maybe some others more. Otherwise it's only a matter of make-up.

Yeah, I know, but think about it; unless every dungeon is antiseptic, no character should get past first level because they should all get, if not the dreaded galloping gangrene, then at least the more prosaic, but still quite unfortunate, gangrene. And so should any monster that survives their wrath.

Yeah, I figure they'll have special immunities since they're nothing but dead rotting organic flesh and bone.
