Did anyone get a chance to check out D&D Encounters?

No.

The completely ludicrous restriction of Wednesdays-only has killed the possibility of my store running the program.

That wasn't the only way across. Anyone who could teleport 3+ squares (mostly eladrin, I imagine) could have gotten across as well as anyone brave enough to jump onto the sewer pipe and then from there onto the other side.

Sometimes 4E is about thinking outside the box. After I saw both of our defenders fall into the drink, I wasn't about to chance that bridge.

I played a homemade Eladrin archery ranger, and the dwarf assailant ( I believe) was on the bridge attacking the player with the pregen melee ranger. I teleported onto the bridge behind him and then stabbed at him and shifted back as per one of my powers. I rolled for one damage...

It was fun; a challenging combat due to there only being two other players besides myself, but the DM had one of the attackers flee before the fight had even started.

My character also got set on fire for a round...

I ran the Encounter last Thursday. It was my first time as a DM and my wife's first time as a player. I really felt that this is an ideal way to try running a game. The support materials are excellent.

The group really seemed to enjoy themselves and actually had a good bit of role play in the tavern.

Oh, and our monk jumped across the canal.
