You didn't get the memo?

[EDIT- Rothe, I am almost regretful I clicked on that link you posted. I am really at a loss for words for some of those posts... and posters... but it puts certain recent threads in a different light, that's for sure.]

Yeah I was too. Was looking for some info on OSRIC and hit that, like a train wreck I couldn't look away.

I have to say, that sort of stuff was eventually what drove me away from MML after being the lone voice championing the Five Shires (as opposed to "make 'em dark and kewl" or the other ideas offered).

I had a feeling that was what drove you off. Much to their/our detriment. The MML is little more than a ghost town these days anyway. Much more going on at the boards.

Even the theoretical Mystara3E list (did they ever get an update document released?) was so deeply hostile to 3E that it was essentially paralyzed. ("Nope, sorry, we have to rewrite every race and class instead of using 3E, otherwise it just won't be Mystara!" )

Nope. That project is another ghost town. I dropped out of it early on for much the same reasons. Some of the things they came up with- a second Astral (in addition to the 3E Astral) that kept the properties of the old Astral... silly things like that. Then they formed a committee that was going to have the final word on conversion matters, though they were attempting to work as a consensus. They wanted to start in on things like Immortality and such even though there was no base "core" work done yet for people, and the moderator seemed, IMO, to be tending towards the tyrannical before they disappeared altogether, and nearly took the Vaults of Pandius with them (they were hosting them on the same 3E site). Fortunately Shawn took them elsewhere and divorced them from that project.

There is more work being done towards a 3E conversion on the Mystara Message Boards at Wizards now than there ever was done in nearly 8(?) years of the Mystara 3E Project.

And forget about daring to say the Karameikos or Glantri boxed sets were any good. Yeesh, you'd think you were advocating the clubbing of baby harp seals.

Well, I'm still not personally sold on the Glantri boxed set, though I do like some of what was done in the Karameikos one. I think largely because the Glantri Gaz (though not as organized as, in retrospect, I think it should have been) was duplicated in so many places. I think if both Monte Cook and (mainly) Jeff Grubb hadn't had their hands tied in regards to what they could have done with those projects (something James Mishler has related via conversations he'd had with Jeff), I think both of those projects- and the Mystara 2E- would have been much better off than it was, rather than flopping.

But I digress. Yeah- the 2E vs. OD&D Mystara Warz! were occasionally intense. (Not as bad as the Alphatia vs. Thyatis Warz! though.)

I was. . . not surprised. Certain posters in that thread have a fairly well established agenda of bashing D&D 3x whenever they can. There are, in fact, several posters in that thread who I suspect have an ENWorld account for only two reasons:

1. To guerilla advertise OSRIC.
2. To bash D&D 3x.

The vitriol level of those posters where ENWorld is concerned very much gives them away. And, honestly, it's a damn shame. That kind of irrational, bitter, hatred is exactly why my love of old school games has slowly died over the past two years.

I just want to have fun. If I have to be a bitter old sot to participate in communities dedicated to old school games, I won't be having fun. Guaranteed. For me it's all about the love. There doesn't seem to be a lot of that in certain communities.

Well if there was you might never know about it. :) Take a look here:

it seems there is quite an organization behind ORSIC/old school advancement. I’ll post a bit from the above link, while editing out the flames from the information presented.

(emphasis added)

Although, there seems to have been a decision not to go to ENWorld.

Ah, I had heard about this feud but never experienced it. Obviously I like OSRIC and find the guys that have been contributing to it most pleasant to work with. My one hope is that I can stay aove the fray. Well, that and I hope people like my art contributions to it. :D

I don't know. Its seems that Halaster has taken a lot personally. My experiences with Traveller is that he's a pretty good guy. Plus Joe Browning of expeditious Retreat and his wife has been nothing but super cool to me and my daughter, so I can only assume Joe had an exceptionally bad day when he made that very out of character post.

Papersand Paychecks has been nothing but very professional, as I think he proves he is very good at with reading that exchange.

Several people in those threads definitely need to take a step back and take several deep breathes, but most of those people I know are good people.

Those threads definitely don't reflect well on several people that I know are better than that.

I'm sure if I have ever looked back over the years of posts I have made I would find a few (hopefully just a few) of which I would not be proud of myself for.

One of these days, I do have to submit the results of the voyage of the Turtle to the Mystara almanac. Those poor hin explorers were going to run smack dab into the jerren on their quest to find the halfling ancestral lands in the deep south. :]
