Did someone declare January "Edition Wars" month?

Well if there was you might never know about it. :) Take a look here:
http://www.adndcampaigns.com/forums...62865f7b88570f792731dc03f9e&topic=327.msg4393

it seems there is quite an organization behind ORSIC/old school advancement. I’ll post a bit from the above link, while editing out the flames from the information presented.

Although, there seems to have been a decision not to go to ENWorld.

Oh, that's just BEAUTIFUL.

I think you need to re-read my post. I said for the last year you guys have been good. I've been posting all over the DF boards with no problems.

I think in the last year I have only seen two or three posters who have even tried to pick a fight, with OSRIC, for it being posted in the wrong forum, or some such.

The only problems we have had with C&C is one or two DF posters came into our forum and trying to troll. We basically laughed them out of our forums by complementing their trolling abilities and telling them some pointers for improving their trolling attempts.

Its been months since anyone has done anything I have thought was even questionable.

So I am just saying don't get irritated enough to take the wrong tone in this thread, and shoot yourself in the foot. I like you guys over on DF. You, DungeonDelver, Rizak, etc... make very enjoyable posts. So just keep that practice over here.

Don't let anyone bait you into the behavior that they claim you have. Be like Papersand Paychecks and insist on being civil. I think we should all make a concerted effort to be that way. I think that PapersandPaychecks has shown that "heated debates" can be fairly entertaining, and still maintain civility.

We're trying. Some folks don't seem to want that.

The idea of the "bunker" at K&K has been blown way out of proportion by a handful (really a couple) of folks bearing a grudge because they weren't invited to join. It's a private (membership by invitation) development area where we've worked on, among other projects, OSRIC and Monsters of Myth (which will be officially released any day now, honest!). This is no different from what any other publisher does. The only difference is that because we decided not to announce any of our projects until they were essentially finished and release was imminent, there were a few long months when people could tell something was going on behind-the-scenes, but not what. So, naturally, they decided to spin a paranoid fantasy that we must be hunkered down in our "bunker" gossiping about and plotting against them! OSRIC is out now, MoM will very shortly be out (the book is totally done, the layout guru just wanted to tweak a few things after seeing the test print), and other projects are still in development. I'd hope all of those products would speak for themselves what's really been going on all along in the K&K "bunker" and finally put that silly meme to rest...

Working on anything else? I'm not fishing for an invitation (and I'd decline anyway), but I'm working on something for publication myself, and you guys do good work. When looking for advice, I tend to orbit around your crowd and take the advice to heart, so I'm always happy to hear about new Bunker Boffers (j/k) projects!

There was an edition skirmish at my place last saturday between the majority of the group and our resident OD&D player who plays 3e to have something to do. I wont go into extreme details but lets just say he came in a poor mood about 3e or my Dming style (of which only he and like one other person have ever disliked, both because it wasnt 1e enough for them), not certain of which, but i came ready to defend myself and the game.
His reasons where pretty lame. Something about not getting a sense of where we where cause we moved around alot, and not having maps (#1 I dont provide my players with maps unless they can find a cartopgrapher who has mapped the area and #2 im not describing in fine detail the style of every single city or area. sometimes a forest is a forest.) or enough Dungeons Crawls.
Personally, and this can be done with any edition of the game in my opinion (but he seems to think its an edition thing) but i like huge epic storylines that take you from small hamlets to large godly planes, to even the pits of hell.

I would like to think if I came to your game, with a stated preference for 1E over 3E (it would actually be C&C in my case), I would hope I would have the maturity and self discipline, as well as respect for everyone else, to not ruin a game with my sour apples.

If I had a problem with your DMing style I would tell you, see if we can reach some kind of "happy middle ground". But if I outright disliked your DMing style I would tell you guys goodbye. Not hang around and ruin the enjoyment of the others so you all have to share in my gaming misery.

Didn't OSU/GWU have something like that, though?

Heck, the Trolls have something like a "bunker" going on, but the cover story is that it is for the development of the Castle Keepers Guide.

There are, in fact, several posters in that thread who I suspect have an ENWorld account for only two reasons:

1. To guerilla advertise OSRIC.
2. To bash D&D 3x.

Kind of like Nightfall's account is only to gurellia advertise Scarred Lands and to promote the worship of Orcus? ;)

Oh, that's just BEAUTIFUL.

I dunno, comparing ENWorld to a scab and stuff like that doesn't seem too pretty. :\
