Did the nerds win?

I feel like in the 80s I was picked on more for listening to heavy metal than playing DnD.
The best way to ‘win’ in my opinion is to not care what other people think.

That works, so long as the other people only think.
When thoughts turn to actions, there can be problems. There is not a whole lot of light between "picked on" and "bullied".

Yeah, that’s very true.
Any kind of harassment is a different story.

Edit: apologies to anybody that felt like I was minimising or trivialising harassment that they’ve experienced.

Hey could you help me here? Why has my comment been tagged as an anti inclusive comment? It was not intended that way. I can not see how it can be interpreted that way. Perhaps you are projecting onto it for some reason? It’s possible I can edit it if you help me to see how it is perceived as anti inclusive. Anti inclusive of who?

Probably the bit where you start talking about the Great Replacement Except Happening To Gamers and very directly use the word "inclusivity" as a negative thing.

How is using the word ‘inclusive’ a sign that the post is anti-inclusive? I was not using the word as a negative thing. I was using the word as a word to mean what it means. Did the post-millennial gaming industry become more inclusive ? Or more to the point; Was there in that time a huge public awareness about the idea of inclusivity?
I argue yes to both.
I did not say I believe it to be a bad thing.
I have my whole life fought for inclusivity.
The comment was about how post-millennial generation of gamers outnumber oldschool gamers. This is a sign the nerds won, if winning involves going mainstream, attracting many more players. However, the idea that there is an OSR as opposed to how the majority of gamers, the younger gamers do it, mean there are two distinct groups - the community has split.
I am asking whover tagged my post to contemplate if discussing that a thing exists is the same as criticising it for existing? I believe I intended to discuss that it exists. I believe I did not insult it for existing. My point was the opposite to that. Thus, I believe the tag is incorrect.

It’s possible I’m missing something here. The word inclusivity is not regarded as a cuss word now is it? I thought it is a good thing. I will take a stand to protect that it is a good thing.

Its okay now for everyone to be a geek,

Being macho died in the 90's freeing all of us to be more open about our quirks, computers became ubiquitous and the computer nerds became the new entrepreneurs.
Shows like Friends told us small groups of 30 somethings could hang out and do goofy things together, then social media let everyone know that there were others in their geekdom and you could still like comics or games.

So no nerds didnt win, but they did get their place in the sun alongside all the other commercially significant consumer demographics

I’m not expounding the virtues of the old boys. I’m in a predicament that while I am of that generation myself, I also get harassed by them on a regular basis for speaking my mind.

I’m sorry about the experiences your wife has had to put up with. That sucks. I hate those guys.

Liking "nerdy" stuff has been normalized and that's good.

As a result there's been house-cleaning to get rid of the bigots and abusers and make the hobbies more inclusive and thus more appealing to a wider audience.

There's still a ton of problems with bigotry in the community, but it's way better than it used to be. At least now bigotry and rape are seen as bad things instead of 'Boys will be boys, why are you being so sensitive?!'
