Did you sign up to be a part of gaming history?

I don't think the emails will be part of it. I'm pretty sure it'll just be a link on their site, accept an NDA, and download; and will be available to all. You may or may not get an emailed notification at the time, but your prior signup won't be a pre-requisite.

I should also mention that the first time I signed up, I did not receive confirmation. A few days later I tried again with the same address and then received confirmation. If you never got anything at all you might want to try again.

Isn't an NDA worthless if anyone can download the files?

I expect it will stop you using the playtests materials to produce and sell a clone of the game prior to release.

Wouldn't copyright cover that? I'm hoping I don't have to ask my players to enter into some legal arrangement before testing the game next week, I'm really not sure how well that would go over. I guess we'll see on the 24th.

I do, I also joined the "DnD Next" group, which I'm pretty sure you can do without being an insider, so I didn't know if it was that.

You can. I signed up for it, am not an insider subscriber.

Edit - and I looked through my email - the only email I have received is the initial intro letter.

No. You can't copyright game rules. But you can sign a contract which says you won't copy them.
