Dieties in a homebrew world

perhaps Om has many personalities and some of them are of more bad things like lust and greed, aspects are called different things and there are cults worshipping these but since they are not recognised by the church who all think that this god is good or something like that they dismis this as garbage. i dunno just got me thinking is all.

perhaps for instance ther eis a aspect Calld Mog which is of a death ideal which attracts death cults.

i dont know i'm not going to use any of these names obviosly but just the theries it got my mind ticking over, maybe in a very manical way since i'm rather ill right now lol

Can I suggest that you download the Diadamon netbook? It's a free PDF available for download (see my link below, and scroll down the webpage) that details a whole pantheon, including not only info on the gods but also info on cleric duties, new feats, etc.

that is assuming tha ti wanted to use someone elses gods right?

i dont really i want to make my own. thanks alot anyway tho :) il'l download and read it anyway tho. thankyou very much.

Religious conflict (not necessarily using maces and swords) is always useful to drive a plot. In order to promote conflict you could try to have two gods for each domain and make them of different alignments.

Have at least one dead or, better, imprisoned evil god so that you can have scary abandoned temples and lurking cultists. Have a god for every type of adventurer, which may or may not be the same as a god for every class. Decide which of your gods have paladins and druids.

Have a god for nobles (war, glory, law or destiny) and one for peasants (crops, healing, peace or tranquility). The nobles' church may well be unfriendly or even violently hostile to the faith that many peasants follow.

To design a full pantheon, you could start with two to five greater gods, one of whom is supreme, and then add different followers and allies to each of them as intermediate and lesser gods. Again, conflict is useful: have several pairs of gods who are opposed to each other, either because they have opposite domains, or because they have similar domains and compete for worshippers.

When you finish this process make sure you have an origin myth, even if it's one sentence, for at least the greater gods and why the pantheon is organised the way it is.

I know you wanted to create your own pantheon, but since Diadamon is free, I think it's a good idea to download it, if only to borrow ideas.

As for pantheon suggestions here is mine:

1) Just a few gods, but well detailed, and with access to a wide panel of domains.

2) 5 gods: three of good who work together, plus one LN war/defenders deity, plus druids (who are either N or CN, as they are independant from the small pantheon).

4) 1 "dead" god of evil. It took the three deities of good associated with the LN deity of war to banish / imprion the deity of evil. However, as suggested in a precedent post, there is many ruins left across the countryside, of temples of that dead evil god. Even in his sleep this (Cthulhu-esque?) deity can grant spells to his followers...

hmm for me this is the hardest part imo of creating a world becuase the gods seem to be the core foundation to me.

anime kid had some titles in his other thread that i read through and through a few of the names i gathered a few areas of focus or ideas i could use to create new gods with those keywords as thier titles or something like that with differen t names etc. but basically it gave alot of areas of focus i could think about, hopefully he doesnt mind the fact th ati was inspired by hi s listing. i dont plan to take it and use it as such it just gives me ideas for areas of focus.

Ok, i have an idea of a deity of planar travel, but i cant use the term "The Traveler" as a D&D deity since there is a deity of that name in eberron right? or doesnt it work that way?

I created a whole pantheon for my world. It's fun, and adds alot of flavor.

Here's some points to remember, and some hints that worked for me.

1) Start with alignments. At a minimum, provide a diety for each alignment. That doesn't mean you need 9 gods - only that a cleric of any alignment needs a god or two to choose from. Neutrals work well if you want to keep the pantheon small. Using extreme alignments (LG, CG, LE, CE) provides less "coverage", since by the rules clerics can't be more than one step away in alignment.

2) Next, split up the domains available. As you group them, you'll start to see the personality of your gods. A LN god with Healing, War, and Fire evokes a different personality than a LN god with Death, War, and Fire.

3) Each god needs three to four domains. Don't forget to try to provide access to the most common domains across several alignments. If the only diety to have War is evil, then you have eliminated good clerics who wish to bring rightous salvation though martial cleansing. Likewise, if the only god to have Healing is Lawful Good, then no True Neutral clerics will be able to choose that domain.

Once you start doing these things, the personality and life of your gods will become apparent. Good luck!

ok but 1 question, can i have a god called "the traveler" or maybe <insert name here> - the traveler without it ripping off eberron or violating wotc/eberron copyright aslong as its a compltely different god if you know what i'm getting at, to me that name seems too common place to be under that strangle hold becuase i had for some reason this idea that involved tarot cards, you know how you have stuff like "the prisoner"? well i thought maybe this evil god thats been locked away can be <insert name here> - the prisoner etc. you know subtitles. etc
