Different Healing

I really like the way healing is handeled in the Wheel of Time, where it leaves you tired (converts to subdual instead of instantly making you all better). It's just so much cooler, and i've always thought the way healing is handled in DnD feels too much like a video game. (yeah i know, the video games prolly got it from DnD in the first place, whatever) The point is, if healing is changed to this alternate system, classes that can cast healing magic, espically the cleric, are shafted. How could one implement this and still balance out the cleric class, and also try to make it up to the other divine casters (and the sodding bard). ? Is it even possible ?

Arcane healing ...

okay shameless plug again ...

Rehab (board member (don't know if he made the switch yet)) ... came up with some Arcane Healing spells.

basically it was a temporary 'patch' spell ... you gained temporary hp (up to your max) ... nice right?

well it doesn't heal a whole lot (used d4's) ... lasts 1hr/lvl and is dispellable ... so just say you were patched for 25pts of dmg (again up to your max) ... yeah! you're good for a few hours when it will then disappear and you're out those hp again.

even worse if it is dispelled then you loose those 25pts real quick ...

Arcane healing 1: d4 +lvl (max d4+5) ... Arcane healing 4: 4d4+lvl (max 4d4+20)

it was scaleable too, you could lessen the duration (of an hour/lvl) for a greater hd of healing. d6=10m/lvl, d10=1m/lvl, d12=1/rnd lvl.

Inspiration was from a book (hmm chaos wall? don't remember the name ... the first one was really cool, the second kinda blew) ... were magical healing was only temporary and would fade after a while, it was basically a stop-gap measure until you could reach a divine healer.

never read WoT, so I can't really offer any advice (I know the topic has been around for a while)

from the SRD: "Psionic Metabolism [Psionic]

Prerequisite: Con 13+, Rapid Metabolism.

Benefit: You convert 1 point of normal damage to 1 point of subdual damage per hour, if you pay the cost of 1 power point per hour. If you are unconscious or dying, Psionic Metabolism does not work."

... that's how Psychic Warriors heal. Some of them. Others use Claws of the Vampire, or proactive temporary hit points (Vigor and Improved Vigor).

I like the idea of a spell that converts real damage to subdual damage. Seems like great flavor.
